Product Description

Review

'The "Gin," volume seems particularly well-timed; the spirit is enjoying a US renaissance. Author Lesley Jacobs Solmonson brings us through gin's history at a blistering pace that manages to satisfy with plenty of drama and botanicals. Somerset Maugham, Dorothy Parker, The Dutch East India Company, and Robert Benchley ("I must get out of these wet clothes and into a dry martini.") all get their due.' - Boston Globe

Very good basic knowledge behind this spirit ingredient includes quite a lot of history and some foundations of some brands

I purchased this for my partner who like a good gin and tonic and he really liked it. Having a flick through myself I like the illustrations such as the old adverts. It seems the sort of book you can dip in and out of.

It's a compact book and quite nicely presented, I might have to look at buying the whisky version too.

The one downside is that the Kindle version is a bit pricey I wish there was a bundle option. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

HASH(0x91658a80) out of 5 stars Gin - a fascinating history! 6 Oct. 2012

To think that something so seemingly innocuous and ordinary today should have such a fascinating history and have contributed so much to life and the language of today. I have bought several of this "Edible" series and hope they are all as well written and interesting as this one! Excellent!!!

HASH(0x91658ccc) out of 5 stars A really good and easy to follow book 15 Jan. 2013
By Diane Edwards Perryman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
It seems books about spirits are outdated the moment they hit the shelves, but that being said, history doesn't change, so the vast majority of this book was really helpful in understanding gin's history and production. It is an easy and interesting read with a low geek factor, so I guess it will appeal to anyone looking to learn about the spirit that refuses to die.

HASH(0x91658f0c) out of 5 stars Short, but well written summary. 13 Jun. 2014
By William C Logan Jr - Published on Amazon.com

This is a nice little, short narrative history of Gin. I was just curious about this, so this size book was just what I was looking for. If you want an exhaustive history, look somewhere else. If you just want a general coverage, this is well written and does the job.

Exactly what it says : an introduction to the history of gin. I liked it, but if you are not interested in this subject or love the drink this book probably wont convert you.

Good beginning to modern day history of the Juniper dominant spirit. A good glossary of Gin's available today, traditional and new world.
