Although Lynyrd Skynyrd are reknowned for songs such as "Sweet Home Alabama", one shouldn't be deterred from purchasing this album because of its lesser-known content.
What you will find is that the album has a huge diversity of songs and genres, possibly moreso than in Skynyrd's other albums, stretching from "Rock" in songs such as "Gimme Back My Bullets" and "Cry for the Bad Man" to more mellow country songs such as "Every Mother's Son" and "All I can do is write about it". Therefore, the overall listening experience is interesting and caters for all tastes, as well as providing a different perspective to one of the greatest of all rock bands. A good buy!

This album marks Lynyrd Skynyrd's all-time low point. Whilst many people slated their previous offering - Nuthin' Fancy - this suffers from all the same problems, and then some. Nuthin' Fancy was born out of a ridiculously short series of sessions amidst their hectic tour schedule, but at least it had some excellent songs - and THREE guitarists. Before it was released, however, guitarist and principle song-writer Ed King had left in acrimonious circumstances (were there any other type of circumstances with Skynyrd?!). Gimme Back My Bullets was just more of the same - squeezed in during their permanent touring, amidst the downward spiral of drink, drugs and fist fights - but missing the artistic input of King. The title song is the best track on the album, but apart from Cry For The Bad Man and possibly Searchin', the rest is really quite poor. This album really could have been the beginning of the end for Skynyrd, but one day, backing singer Cassie Gaines begged the band to let her brother jam onstage with them at a gig in her home town. And when Steve Gaines launched into his slide guitar solo, the collective Skynyrd jaw dropped...
Get the follow-up albums "One More From The Road" and "Street Survivors" and listen to the difference!
