Season 3 was by far the most entertaining and well-rounded season in the shows history (so far at least, with the 7th season forthcoming). This season captured and brought out in the best of ways all the little traits that make this show what it is.
Almost all the episodes of this season can be described as "classics", from the amazing premiere to the fulfilling finale. Although it is hard to play favourites with this season, stand alone episodes include:
-They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They? (the series 50th episode celebrated in a very special -Stars Hollow- kind of way)
-Dear Emily and Richard (a bittersweet look in the Gilmores family past)
-Those Are Strings, Pinocchio (a very moving episode that concludes Rory's high school years and sets new standards in the Gilmore universe with Rory having to move out of the house and into Yale)
The fast-paced dialogue is more entertaining than ever, the references to everything pop culture are there and the supporting characters (Liza Weil as Paris is plain exceptional) and the eccentric town folks (Babette, Miss Patty etc you get the picture) surround the Girls only to elevate the show to a new level of brilliance.
The writing is -as usual- unique and witty (a Gilmore trademark) and the actors performances are stellar. Especially Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop are exceptional in their respective parts as Lorelai and Emily, portrayals that are certainly Emmy worthy (shame on the Academy for ignoring such strong acting).
All in all, a must buy for anyone who likes those whacky Gilmores! The extras on this set are just the icing on the cake, as the episodes themselves make for great fun. Enjoy the girls at their finest moments!
