Boola boola! Rory starts her first year at Yale. Moola moola! Lorelai finally opens the Dragonfly Inn, although it takes her last dime (and a loan from Luke). The Gilmore girls return for another scintillating, snappy-patter year of Gilmore Girls. Welcome, Gilmore groupies, to the fourth season of the series acclaimed for its agile balance of life and laughter. Oh yes, and love. Lorelai has a romantic fling with her father's new, younger partner, but ends the year with the guy every fan has known was right for her all along. For Rory, Cupid seems to be on sabbatical -- then Dean and Jess re-enter her life. Sookie gets a Davey, Lane gets a life, Kirk gets a girlfriend(!) and you get a 22-episode vacation in Stars Hollow, plus DVD Extras and a mint on the pillow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best seson yet 15 Dec 2006
I feel that this is the best season yet of the critically acclaimed show. In this season we see Rory and Lorelai drift slightly apart as they tackel new problems and face different challenges. In Rory's "Yale world" we see her make and brake friendships as she is intrigued by a possible new love interest who shows her a different side of society life. And Lorelai must deal with consequences of her new and steamy relationship with Luke and that means not only having to face the whole of Stars Hollow but she will also have to break the news to Emily and Richard, who make it clear that they disaprove of Luke. Overall it is heartwarming season with a jaw dropping season finale that cannot be missed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gilmore-tastic 20 Jan 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Once again, a brilliant season from the Gilmore Girls. I have just started watching the DVD but have watched the series on TV. I was so delighted when I saw that it was being released properly on DVD; I had just finished watching season 4 and knew that season 5 was great what with the whole Luke and Lorelai relationship and the introduction of Logan. So I ordered the DVD on the 17th January, it was dispatched the same day (before the official release day) and I received it, in Belgium, on the 19th. Brilliant service as per usual from Amazon. Anyone who loves the GIlmore Girls should buy this box set for more kooky adventures with the Gilmore women. It's a great show to watch to cheer yourself up and for great laughs, as well as the romance and never quite knowing (even when you have do) what will be next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still fab 28 May 2010
By BettyNB
Rory and Laurelai are still on top form but as Rory is no longer resident in Stars Hollow, it's a little bit harder to be taken in and swept away by her experiences. This series isn't as good as the previous four but meeting new characters and seeing a new side to Rory is pretty thrilling. Look out for Logan and his transformation as the series plays out!

3.0 out of 5 stars I know... 14 Jan 2009
By Anna
Giving the Gilmore Girls anything less than 5 stars is anathema. But this season really does only deserve 3. Being a Brit - and a cretin - I was only peripherally aware of the show until after it was finished. Having caught a single episode on tv at silly o'clock, I bought the first 5 seasons and inhaled them one after the other, initially with unmitigated glee and, gradually, from about mid-way through season 4 onwards, an increasing sense of dismay.

Here's why: Gilmore Girls is special. It's safe, and warm and sleepily beautiful. The opening credits with the wall of Autumnal leaves set the tone: in Stars Hollow, nothing bad could ever happen. Partly because the town is immune, and partly because the world they inhabit is a kinder, better world than the real one.

Spending time with Lorelai and Rory and the community there is like being hugged while lying in front of an open fire; it's hearing rain against your window on a Saturday afternoon and being snuggled under your favourite vintage crochet blanket with your favourite book; it's the journey home from work knowing you're now on holiday for 2 weeks... none of the world's cynicism bled into Stars Hollow, and that's what made it wonderful, and magical.

But it started to veer off in season 4, with Rory going off to college. It invited the "real world" into the show, and fundamentally altered its dynamics. Even so, it managed to hold onto its small town warmth in many ways, so it was still a lovely watch.

Season 5, though, is almost unrecongisable. There's a degree of harshness that's crept in... some of the jokes are spiteful and vindictive, where before Lorelai was always sarcastic, but never mean. It's almost as if someone has opened a door, and let in the cold air.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Gilmore Girls Season 24 Jan 2010
By Jess
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
The Inn finally opens, Rory and Dean are back together, Luke and Lorelai go on their first date, Richard and Emily and still separated and Lane and Zack discover feelings for each other. These are just some of the events that are packed into this season of the Gilmore Girls.

Personally this is my favourite season of the Gilmore Girls, I was so glad when Luke and Lorelai finally got together. I also love the new character Logan, who Rory falls for. My only problem with the DVD is that it is the same size as a normal DVD and the episode list is printed on the inside of the case so to view it properly you have to take out the discs. It is also just the name of the episodes, not giving a brief explanation of what happens in the episode. I pre-ordered the DVD and Amazon had it to me the day it was released, a flawless service from Amazon as usual.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended 5 Jan 2010
By Emily
I would highly recommend using this provider. They delivered my dvd much faster than expected and when I realised I had ordered two copies instead of one they were very helpful. I recieved a response to my email in just 5 minutes and as soon as I had returned the dvd I was refunded, including a refund for the postage cost.

Gilmore Girls gave us 4 top notch seasons of fast, intelligent and witty dialogue from likable to lovable characters in the cozy, snow globe town of Stars Hollow. This season is still providing the witty banter, especially from Lorelai, but unfortunately I think in many ways, this is where the series starts to go south.

We start with where last season left us, Rory and Dean sleeping together despite Dean being married. Lorelai falls out with Rory over this and sadly, my love for Rory and Dean plummeted during this story line. It's not only because of the affair... people make mistakes and I'm not saying someone can't come back from doing something like that eventually, but in this case, the way this story is done just made both characters so hateful in my eyes. Rory couldn't care less about Dean's wife until the point where she sees her in a butchers shop almost having a nervous breakdown over a meal she wants to make for Dean. Even worse, the once lovable and charming Dean devolves into a horrible adulterous husband with anger issues. We get more insight into Dean's married life this season and it's actually really sad. Each scene is basically as follows: Dean's wife runs herself ragged trying to make him happy, Dean treats her like absolute crap, she comes close to bursting into tears, Dean either storms off or sticks a "sorry, just stressed with work" band aid over it until next time. If I'm meant to be routing for Rory and Dean while his wife is meant to be the obstacle that I shake my fist at; the writers did a bad job. If it was intended to show a realistic example of how adultery can hurt everyone, the writers did a good job, but I think they seriously underestimated how horrid Dean and Rory would look.
