OK, so you'd like to lose weight - or you'd like to keep slim but you know your diet just isn't that healthy. You'd like to stop the pounds creeping back on, or maybe you could feel better, sleep better, be more energized? Dr Gillian can show you how. Everyone starts on level 1 - because that's where you find your reasons and motivation for being here in the first place. And it's where we flip the switch from just thinking about it to doing it!

Level 2 is Cleanse and Renew. This is a re-education for your body where you'll gradually cut out toxins and replenish through super foods.

Level 3 is your key to Weight Loss. Follow the plan day-by-day and once you've reached your goal and you're feeling fabulous then level 4 will help you feel this way for life, including tips on treats which won't send you hurtling back to level 1 and a fantastic mini plan in case you ever need a quick kick back into healthy living!

1.0 out of 5 stars Yet another marketing and money making ploy! 18 Jan 2006
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Amazon should give us the option of zero stars for our reviews! This book is just another money making spin for the good 'doctor' (which of course she really isn't having bought the accrediation on the internet - mental note: must do the same so I can make as much money as she does!). Basic common sense which we really should not need to have re-iterated to us by a pseudo doctor at an extortionate price.
Be sensible, don't eat junk and find shops that sell good, basic organic food - that's all you need to know - honest!

2.0 out of 5 stars It works if you've got the time 20 Feb 2006
Format:Paperback
Well, I think the idea behind all this is very good and it really does work (I managed to stick to it for 3 weeks and I felt fantastic) but I found it just too impractical. The foods she suggests to eat cost quite a bit more than I would have normally spent but I portioned them off and froze what I could and in the end it really didn't cost that much. The only problem I had was the time it took to prepare the food (and wash up afterwards). It is simply too much for someone who is at work 9 hours a day.

2.0 out of 5 stars 1 week later, 60 lighter! 6 Mar 2008
Format:Paperback
I watched the TV series and was very impressed by the results that Gillian was getting so I thought I would get the books and give them a try.
Having tried this diet I can honestly say I believe the people who lost weight did so because the food was so bland they gave up eating, (certainly lettuce soup was enough to put me off eating for life), and the diet is just not practical for anyone on a budget, I put all the ingredients into Tesco online for one week and the bill totaled over 60.00 and as every day is different I ended up storing randon things like half an avacado.
The basic principles are sound, unprocessed food is far better for the body and everyone is better off eating fresh food than pre-packaged adative full rubbish, sadly the way in which the fresh food is presented had me reaching for a nice tasty burger and they aren't something I even eat!
Try Beyond Chocolate by Sophie and Audrey Boss if you are serious about loosing weight, they have a very different approach which has changed my life and whole relationship with food.

1.0 out of 5 stars Give this one a miss. 9 April 2006
Format:Paperback
I followed the 28 day plan and now on day 29 the book is in the bin. Ok, so anyone following any diet should expect to make a deal of sacrifice and give up some of their favorite food but for 28 days I've had no coffee, milk, eggs, bread, red meat, salt, refined flour or rice. Instead I've existed on smoothies, (nice with the exception of the one make from Avocado and fresh figs - my husband threatened to be sick after one sip). The rest of the meals were tasteless at best and totally unpalatable at worst. The Chinese Cabbage soup was somewhat similar to tasteless vegetables in dish water!
Other reviewers have mentioned the shopping and difficulties in obtaining ingredients and yes I totally agree. While I did manage to track down most items eventually it took hours of time and lots of dosh. I doubt many working mothers would have the time or funds to do so. I now have a cupboard full of all sorts of dried beans that I'll probably never eat.
If it's done me any good then that has been to make me think about what I'm putting in my body but I certainly couldn't carry on with the austerity for another 28 days. I've lost a few pounds but nothing like as much as I feel I should have given the effort it's been.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nonsense 18 April 2007
Format:Paperback
I'm reminded of the anecdote of two friends in a jungle: when they spot a tiger, one puts on his trainers. His companion laughs "you'll never outrun a tiger, even in those", to which the first replies "no, but I'll outrun you". There's an evident dichotomy in the reviews of all McKeith's books, with her decerebrate fans tending to find she has "changed my life completly" and "I would deffinatly reccomend this book" (lucky for them it's not a case of "you are what you spell"). Ultimately, McKeith's quackery proves that she doesn't have to be smart, just smarter than you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Steer Clear! 9 Nov 2010
By :-)
Format:Paperback
Do some research on the author before buying this book. She is not a doctor and has no formal nutritionist training. Her "work" has been discredited by scientists and real nutritionists. She is no longer allowed to use the title doctor as she bought her PhD off the internet!

4.0 out of 5 stars I think, therefore I am what I eat 5 Jan 2006
Format:Paperback
I had previously been sceptical of McKeith's methods. She doesn't look that healthy herself but feels hectoring us fatties about how disgusting we are is the best way to get results - a sort of 'Scared Straight' for those who like chocolate and pizza. Having read this book, I'm now a fan! McKeith uses a simple 'level' approach to health and slimming. In broad terms, level 1 is to stop eating pizza and chips; level 2 is to drink plenty of water; level 3 is to start eating birdseed and bran flakes; and level 4 is to continue saying no to anything tasty - as McKeith puts it herself, 'consolidate, consolidate, consolidate'. Some find Gillian McKeith's aggressive and offensive manner too much, but this book shows that it can work. If fat people are too weak-willed to do something for themselves, who is going to do it for them? Answer: Gillian McKeith!
