After using the Mach 3 and Fusion blades for the past 10 years I got fed up of the constant razor burn, irritation and missed spots. I had read that the Sensor Excel provided a more comfortable shave and this is true. The blade is just the right size, you can shave under your nose easily and also on your jawline below the ears. Try doing that on the oversized Mach 3 and Fusion. The blade stays in one place and does not move according to the contours of your face (i.e. it does not swivel), this means that you are in control of the shave and it allows you to judge how much pressure to apply on each stroke.
The fewer the blades the less irritation on your skin. Razors are getting more gimmicky as time goes on. People are falling for the 5 blade vibrating razors which actually provide worse shaves. I wonder what the future holds? A ten blade razor that emits lazers? Shaving is a simple act so keep it simple!

...and they do exactly what razor blades should do. After trying various razors over the years I always come back to my trusty Excel. I have had the original sensor handle for 20 years now! They shave your face without all this 5 blade rubbish. I have tried the Mach 3 and other brands. I genuinely don't know why Gillette don't stop faffing about and just make this razor!

No happy with quality. Been buying for years and this batch was no the same. It has different packaging from this picture. The packaging is different to any of the same I have purchased before. Razors did not perform the same. They damaged my skin after two days. They did not glide and I had to go buy a new pack from a supermarket which were spot on.

I have used these blades for over 15 years and they have always served me well. I tried other Gillette razors with more than 2 blades and other brands but they are much more expensive and do not shave as well.
There will no doubt be even more sophisticated razors developed in years to come but for me this classic design is very hard to beat.

I have tried and tried and tried to find a better razor than gillette sensor excel, and I have not yet found one. More blades surely means a better cut, no? No. It's like trying to cut something with a broad knife, sometimes it works better with a thinner one. Two blades, a decent angle of attack works well. I found Mach 3 and fusion just gimmicky and scratched away at my face. Shame you can't buy these in bulk and save a few quid as I'll be using them for a few years longer.
Not bad for a design introduced 16 years ago.

For my money there was always something a little suspicious about gossamer sharp metal blades and the "comfort" word. But according to Gillette's marketing team, the more blades they throw into their razors, apparently, the more.. 'comfortable' ! they become. They overplay the comfort of more blades about as much as they underplay the added cost of adding more ever so (yeah right) comfortable blades. But sorry, two blades do just brilliantly. The reality is that if you use any more than that and you might as well use the extra blades to rip up ten pound notes, when you're done nicking your face with those deadly Mach 4's.

Mach three, are little better, and just nick me all over the shop too: no thanks, Gillette. As for "Mach 4", vibrating razors and all the other BS gimmicks, used as little more than a marketing excuse to extort more money from us, I wouldn't mind, save that there is just one little and ever so growing problem, coming soon to a supermarket near you. And here it is:

You read it here first folks. Bad news (and please don't blame me - I'm just the foreteller) Gillette are slowly withdrawing from sale, twin bladed razors, because apparently no one wants to buy them any more. Their marketing millionaires would tell you that Gillette Sensor Excel are now "so twentieth century", and besides, they've far more comfortable (yeah, there's that ever so irritating word when it comes to razor blades, again!) technology in the form of multi-bladed razors - which happen, wastefully, to cost more, not least because we ought to be willing, boys, to pay much more for the privilege of all that ... extra (!!) comfort.

Anyway, the crunch of it is: sometimes progression is regression.
