Q and A Fusion Power

What makes Gillette Fusion razors better than MACH3?
What makes Fusion better than MACH3 is 8 years of shaving innovation. Gillette Fusion is a shaving system which includes a 5-blade shaving surface, a precision trimmer blade and a flexible comfort guard.

What are microfins, and what do they do?
The Gillette Fusion Power razor features ultra-soft skin guards consisting of 15 thinner, more flexible mocrofins. These microfins precede the blades and smooth out the skin before the first blade cuts the first hair, so you get a close, comfortable shave.

What does an Indicator Lubricating Strip do?
An Indicator Lubricating Strip is a thin strip that sits at the top of your razor, releasing lubricants over time, providing a great glide. When you are no longer getting an optimal shave, the Indicator Lubricating Strip fades to white, indicating that it might be time to change the blade.

Q and A Shaving Tips

Is it better to use hot, cold, or warm water to shave?
Warm water is best for hydrating beard hair. Soaking in warm water softens hair and causes it to expand, making it 70 per cent easier to cut.

What is the best way to avoid razor burn?
If the skin is not properly prepared before shaving or if the blade on your razor is dull, you are more likely to end up with razor burn. Make sure to hydrate hair in warm water for up to three minutes and apply plenty of shave gel. Also, you may want to consider changing the blade on your razor at the first sign of dullness or discomfort.

Does shaving make your hair grow back thicker?
Scientists at Gillette have conducted extensive testing on the effects shaving has on both male and female hair growth, texture and colour. This testing has proven that shaving does not affect hair growth, colour, or texture. Shaving does, however, alter the tip shape or the regrown hair, which may initially change the way hair feels as it grows back. However, if hair is left to regrow completely, it will return to its former state.

In what direction should I shave to achieve the best shave?
Men's facial hair tends to grow in different directions. Start by shaving with light, gentle strokes with the grain. Then, if necessary, go against the grain for an even closer shave.

How do I avoid nicks and cuts, particularly above my upper lip?
The area above the upper lip is tricky for many men. To help avoid nicks and cuts, always leave it for last. Apply plenty of shave gel and allow this area to soak up as much lather as possible. When shaving, don't apply too much pressure. The Gillette Fusion ProGlide Precision Trimmer is really useful when shaving under the nose.

Is it okay to let my girlfriend or wife borrow my men's razor?
For both hygiene and performance, it's not a good idea to share your razor with your partner. Women have a much larger area to shave and you may find that after only a few shaves, you blade has dulled considerably; increasing the likelihood of nicks and cuts.

I feel sorry for guys who think this is "The Best A Man Can Get!".
I used to be one of those guys who follwed Gillettes "add another blade" marketing rubbish in search for a better shave with less irritaion.
I have tried every Gillette razor including the Sensor Excel, Mach 3, M3 Power and now the Gillette Fusion.
With everyone I have suffered from ingrown hairs and shaving bumps.
The Fusion itself looks very cool, with its bright orange and blue colour scheme.
However the razor itself is terrible.
The 5 blades are far to close together hwith causes terrible razor drag.
Not only that but it gets clogged very easily and can be a nightmare to clean.
The razor head is far to big and you get no control whats so ever.
I like the single blade on the back, this does a decent job when trimming sideburns or beards but at £2.50 for a razor cartridge replacement, Gillette can take a running jump to themself.
I began doing some investigation into shaving online and the best way to shave.
I learned that someone who suffers from shaving problems should only shave with a single baded razor.
Also found out the traditional method of shaving is far superior to the new canned shave gel and multi-blade razor modern way.
Using a good badger shaving brush exfoliates your skin and makes the hairs of your beard stand up ready to be shaved.
A badger shaving brush also creates a much better shaving lather than you can create with your fingers.
Use good quality english shaving creams which moisturise your skin and soften your facial hair. Plus they smell amazing.
Those cheap deodarant smelling shave gels and foams that everyone uses now are hopeless.

Just had my first shave with one of these and I was vary impressed. From the first stroke I could feel how well a job it was doing. It will be interesting to see how long one blade will last me, particularly as Gilette are getting vary stingy (the razor I brought only came with one blade - and it said only one blade on the packet I had too! :-O, which is a bit tight of them considering the price.)

I had no proplem shaving under the nose as some have been complaining about but I could also sense that any more blades and it would have been a little tricky.

So in summary; a vary good product that gives a close comfortable shave. It's just a shame that the blades are so pricey - you're paying through the nose for the name, that's all it is really.

I changed from using an electric razor to wet shaving when the Mach 3 razor was released. It provided a good shave but the blades were only at their best for a couple of weeks. I have used the Fusion Power since it was released and can confirm that it is just about perfect. The blades last for ages 6-8 weeks and require a minimum number of strokes to achieve an acceptable morning shave, in turn minimising post-shave irritation. I used to use a post-shaving balm but have not needed to do so. The single rear blade is very useful for accurate sideboard demarcation. Whilst the curse of Gillette seems to have affected Tiger, Thierry and even Roger, it remains a superb product.

Most things about Gilette's 5-blader have been more than adequately covered in other reviews, so I'll keeo it short and sweet:

- The shave quality is excellent. The blade seems almost to hold itself to the surface of the skin in the same way that a racing car uses downward force to stick to the road. However, the most important factor in achieving a good shave is the cream or lotion that is used - whether a razor has 3, 4 or 5 blades is largely irrelevent.

- The price of the razor is cheap. The manufacturers want to tempt you into buying their product at a high level of perceived value, knowing that they can then charge a premium price for the replacement blades (even on Amazon the listed price for 8 blades is 14.49 for a bulk pack of 8 (seeGillette Fusion Manual Blades 8 Pack). I risk peeling my face lie a grape by carrying on using these way past their best, and one blade can last at least a month or two (used twice a week). The price quoted by Amazon for these blades is considerably cheaper than in the shops, but nevertheless very expensive for what they are. A Pack of 3 is nearly £8 in my local supermarket! These blades are exclusively designed for the Fusion, and you cannot interchange cheaper blades from another company with them.

My advice would be to get yourself a generic brand from a high street chemist with 3 blades at the most (who really needs any more than that?), and get yourself some good shaving gel to aid the blades' smooth journey across your face with the money you save.

After all, if Gillette can afford to pay a certain Mr. Beckham to star in their adverts, you've got to wonder where their money's coming from...

I have sensitive neck and have been using the disposable plastic razors thinking it made no difference. However I was wrong! i could only shave a couple of times a week because of my neck, with this product I can shave every day and it dosnt hurt.

I would definitely recommend this to any one who has sensitive skin. Also for the price, it a top investment.
