Radio 1 DJ and esteemed music selector Gilles Peterson weighs in with his third "Worldwide" volume for Mercury/Universal Records. Reflecting the eclectic array of records that he usually spins on the "Worldwide" radio show, Peterson's choices are again flawless. Older tracks from the likes of Henry Mancini & His Concert Orchestra ("Butterfly") sit comfortably next to current contenders such as Roy Hargrove's RH Factor ("Poetry"), all injected with that breezy, sometimes jazz-inflected groove that Peterson obviously cherishes. Highlights include the tension-heavy "One Day" by 2 Banks of 4 and Kelis's melody-rich "Little Suzie" (likely the Neptunes' most pop-oriented production to date and possibly a nod towards Questlove [of the Roots], who played it on air while filling in for Peterson back in February of 2003). Other songs that strongly round out this compilation are the Latin jazz dance-dominated revision of James Brown's "Give It Up or Turnit Loose" and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra's quality "La Banda".
Although geared towards a more commercial sound than his "Trust The DJ" titles, Peterson remains a vaunted resource of indisputable great material as evinced on "Worldwide 3". A leading favourite for best compilation of the year.

well it looks like we can give up on any more double discs in this series... but it's still a fantastic mix... if you're interested in the kind of music that gilles spins.. kicking off with the detroit experiment and then into ski oakenfulls latest project "2 banks of 4" i love this track.. q-tip & co give us poetry..which is the kind of sweet mellow jazzy hip-hop that enriches the soul..later on is the monumental Skyy: can you feel me.. shivers up the spine & fall in love with rosie kay.. my favourite track is wesley music..epic with one of those semi-gospel type vocals..last track seems to be about Gilles himself (Terri Walker & Mos Def) which surely amounts to vanity by including it..but its a great track too...

this is a pretty good compilation from world music/jazzer dj gilles peterson featuring a few great latin/nu-jazz,kitsch remixes but let down in the middle running order by dull or poor amy winehouse,jermain jackson + marvin gaye tracks(yes i really did say let down+include marvin gaye?). these tracks let the mix + energy down badly. however there are great tracks by spanish harlem orchestra, the rh factor,kelis and detroit experiment tho.
ok - but go for the Worldwide 2 compliation - far better + more consistent.
