Gill Schierhout (1967-) was born in Harare, Zimbabwe, where she spent her childhood. Her first published short stories were short listed for the SAPen/HSBC literary awards (2005 and 2007), and "The Day of the Surgical Colloquium Hosted by the Far East Rand Hospital" was short listed for the Caine Prize for African Writing in 2008. Her first book of fiction, "The Shape of Him" was short listed for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize 2010 and has been longlisted for the Sunday Times Fiction Prize 2010(South Africa).
