After four attempts I have got to grips with making a great pizza with this machine. The instructions that come with it are a bit of nonsense really - you need to allow yourself time to try the dual controls to find which combination of upper and lower heat suits your pizza dough.
My first attempt resulted in the dough sticking to the stone. I looked on the internet and discovered that cooks recommend the use of cornmeal flour or polenta flour to stop this happening. It makes sense because the idea of the stone base is that it absorbs moisture - the flour helps it to do so. I had some pasta flour which is a bit more grainy than regular bread flour and it has done the trick. I sprinkle some on the stone before putting the dough base and have had no problems at all.
I also cook my dough base for a few minutes on 'lower' setting, which cooks the base from underneath. I check to see if it is crisping up a little before switching to 'dual' for about three to four minutes and then add the topping. These settings produce an amazing pizza - the base I prefer is pretty thin - dough rolled out to about 4mm. It tends to puff up when heated so it is advisable to check by lifting the lid (with care). It may sound complicated but it isn't - in fact it is very enjoyable to cook pizza at the table - the machine is a good talking point. I submit this review because I would like any future purchasers not to be put off - just remember to use a grainy flour on your stone - and don't get it too wet when you wash up. I just scrape mine off and rub flour on it to get any bits off it, I've learnt it doesn't do it any good to be immersed in water.

My wife bought me this pizza oven some months ago and I have to say, it's revolutionised the intake of my favourite food. It's great fun to make your own pizza's, they're healthier and cheaper than a take away too and the fun really starts when you make your own pizza dough too. Even my Italian has improved! This is a really easy to use peice of kit and not too large (you will need a decent space in your kitchen to show it off though). The pizza's are cooked to perfection and the mechansim flips from overhead or underneath grill, or both, at exactly the right times to get the perfect base and nicely but not overly cooked top. This should be in every blokes kitched, next to the mini Peroni fridge.

The design, ease of use and construction of this oven is good and the results are excellent. However it lets itself down in two areas.
1. The clockwork timer sticks
2. Finish is at best average with indifferent quality control from the manufacturer.
I returned my first oven because the timer always stopped after two minutes which caused several burnt pizza's. The replacement did exactly the same. I now don't leave the oven unattended and am always ready to give the clock a nudge.
The paint finish on both ovens was generaly fair but there were areas where the paint was rough and thin. Both my ovens arrived slightly scuffed and the bright work inside one of them was covered with finger prints.

Bought this for my partner and it is excellent. Easy to use. Great pizzas from the offset - just extended the heating time for the base to begin with compared with instructions and that was it! Brilliant!It has a window so you can see it working. It has a built in timer so no worries there. Perfect. Paid a bit more and did not regret for one moment. We have never had a bad pizza. Stone is easily washed afterwards and no roblem with smoking - only occurs if the pizza is piled too high. Great present for anyone!

Making pizzas from scratch has always been impossible at home due to not having a pizza oven setting on the cooker or one of those big wood fired chimneys. This is a good idea from Darren Giles which will no doubt be improved with some future tweaking. We have done a lot of experimenting particularly with thickness of topping ( too thick and the topping scraped off on the element, burns and makes a hell of a mess). Getting your dough right is the main thing and twirling it above your head seems to be very important! We have now come up with a method which works for us and Friday night is pizza night.

On the downside I'm not sure of the lifespan of this product. The build quality looks a bit cheap and the exposed elements look a bit scary and Heath Robinson. Cleaning it is a difficult procedure and frustrating as there are a lot of corners you cannot reach into. In operation the escaping steam and smoke is very alarming. Once or twice our timer has not reached the end on its own and it has not switched off and pinged (I wouldn't leave the machine alone whilst working) . The rubber seal on the oval window is loose fitting and doesn't seem too secure. The rubber feet are prone to falling out when we put it away (in the garage as it's a bit big for the kitchen cupboards). If you are having pizzas for more than one person you have to share the first one before it gets cold and cook the second one at the same time which isn't too relaxing (unless you buy two of these!)

Would I recommend it? Yes, as it's on its own out there in the market. But Darren has a few things to improve go attain perfection.
