Blues Old & New 15 May 2006
Format:Audio CD
Anyone who's seen Alan Price and the Band's many live shows over the years will know how well the five members combine, and their togetherness certainly shows through on this album.

All 14 tracks have a vocal from either Alan, Zoot Money or Bobby Tench and occasionally from them all at once.

Zoot Money gives a soulful version of 'Whatcha Gonna Do', and 'Good Times/Bad Woman' and 'Old Love' are great vehicles for Bobby Tench's bluesy voice.

Alan's 'Rollin Like A Pebble In The Sand' is a lovely, sad song and it's difficult to understand why it isn't better known.

Good to hear one of Alan's old hits from 1966 'I Put A Spell On You' sounding better than ever, with the additional inputs from Zoot's keyboard and Bobby's guitar. Other favourite classics such as John Lee Hookers 'Boom Boom' and Boz Scaggs 'Some Change' are excellent too.

On the final track, the epic show-stopper, 'Say It Isn't True', Alan's starts on keyboard and his vocal is a quiet request, but gradually the pitch builds up throughout the piece. Then, following a thrilling break from Bobby Tench as his Stratocaster soars above the driving rhythm, the whole band are in full cry with Alan's request becoming a heart felt plea in the brilliant climax.

Perhaps it's not necessary for a Blues band's years of experience to total more than three figures, but it definitely helps here!
