The classic status of Alien, the movie, is in large part due to Academy-Award winning artist and designer H. R. Giger. 5.0 out of 5 stars Choose your edition with care. 27 Dec 2011

Well if you are shopping for "Giger's Alien" you likely know all too well what you are after. H. R. Giger first hit the world stage with his designs for Ridley Scott's "Alien", and simply this book is a "must have" for any artist, designer or follower of Giger. I strongly recommend the book.
However be very careful about where you buy your copy. Some copies are in German. If you seek the English edition get your copy from Titan Books.
Likewise do not get ripped off! This book was mass printed and shop around as a Titan edition can EASILY be had for under £10. I say this because some greedy S/H book dealers are trying to charge £100 for a first edition. You do not need the first edition. The first edition was published in the UK in 1979 by a company called BIG O PUBLISHING(long gone). It is NOT a rare book as a first edition, so do not pay stupid money for it. Also my 1989 Titan reprint is a first class reproduction of my BIG O first edition. There is a little redundant information about Giger's exhibitions missing from the reprint and sadly the bibliography too, but apart from that it is excellent. The reprint now includes a new page about Giger winning the "Oscar".
The quality of reproduction of Giger's art work in the 1989 Titan reprint is frankly as good as my original edition. The colour balance on the cover art is bias toward blue over the original which was slightly redder but that is the only image that seems different.
What I'm saying is dont get ripped off by paying a fortune for a first edition, its not worth it, the reprint is excellent. If you are interested in Science Fiction art/design/creation then this is a fabulous book. If you're a "Alien" fan then this is the bible.
The Big O first edition can be three figures in price!

The book is great, but the paperback edition is produced to very poor standard. I am returning my copy and waiting for the harback edition to be published again.

Brilliant insight the conceptual art behind the movie. Sketches, original paintings, photographs from the set along with other fantastic musings bring Giger's dark mind to life. Lovers of the film as well as those who admire Giger's art will find this book invaluable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Giger is a genius! 1 Dec 2012

I'm a huge fan of the Alien series, love the designs of H.R. Giger and have wanted to get this book for years. Giger's Alien is full of amazing artwork that Giger produced for the original Alien film, including early designs for the film. If you're a fan of the Alien series, H.R. Giger or both, you should get yourself a copy of this book. After going through it, you will see why Giger's designs are the scariest and most interesting to ever hit the screen.
