I bought this motherboard in December 2013 to contribute to my 'dream machine' build and can report some 10 months later that I'm a whole world of happy with how the machine performs; this thing is a dream to use: Capable, fast and never seems to complain no matter how much I throw at it.! I've never experienced a PC with so much stamina.

Potential trip wires: If you intend to install Intel's Ivy-Bridge processor you're going to have to ensure that your supplier has updated the BIOS to version F16 or later otherwise your great new project will collapse before it's even got off the ground. A consequence of updating the BIOS however will be the demise of the 3D BIOS which sounds unfortunate but for me at least it's proved to be no big deal at all; I really wanted that Ivy-Bridge-E processor.

I have had an issue with the onboard 5.1 audio. The Realtek drivers do not function correctly under Windows 7 Pro (on my setup at least). The machine will still output audio but all the bass content was spilling through the front-right channel instead of the sub and no amount of channel reassignment, endless banter (not to mention quite useless!) between myself and Gigabyte technical support and being completely ignored by Realtek themselves, was able to cure it. I did discover however that Windows 7 generic drivers run the 5.1 audio just fine.

As another reviewer has indicated, there is a single PCI slot located really close to one of the PCI-EX16 slots so if you're planning on running a pair of graphics cards in SLI you can write off using that PCI slot as indeed I had to when I considered installing my old PCI Creative Labs sound card to solve my audio issue.

A nice compact motherboard fitted with plenty for a budget to mid range system. For me this was a perfect system starter given that I want a 2011 build and this is one of the few available at a reasonable price. I am very satisfied with its design, performance and native over-clocking ability. Then why only 4/5 stars? Well I did have to do a fair bit of fiddling around at the beginning downloading the latest BIOS ROM and chipset drivers. The bundled Intel RSTe is buggy so I had to un-install and go with the standard edition which too has bugs, namely the fact that the daemon service will only start once all other services have started. The only difference between the bundled enterprise and standard edition is the enterprise is more resilient against errors for this perk you do have a slower access speed with your SATA drives. Other than this little annoyance, I have nothing bad to say about this little gem ^_^ Plenty of expansion slots and a good amount of RAM slots and SATA and other peripheral connectors. The on-board sound is also very awesome ^_^

An addendum to my previous review which gave this 4/5 stars, now I have no choice but to reduce this to 2/5.

One of the major selling points of this system is its 4 way SLI/Crossfire, however, you must realise that if you wish to have wireless installed you need to use the only spare PCI slot or be close to your router and be able to plug in directly or be close enough to use a USB or mini PCI-E wireless adapter. If, like me, you decide to put in a decent wireless PCI card and later wish to improve your systems rendering performance you are met with a WTF! moment. You will immediately notice that the second PCI-E x16 is sat right next to your only PCI slot.

Perfectly organized, easy to understand and install. Packed with all the accessories (Crossfire, SLI, SLI 3x, SLI 4x, 4xSata cables). BIOS interface is amazing, "3D" graphic interface, mouse supported, very user friendly and easy to tweak.

The attached CD has a lot of software from Gigabyte to help you play around with the motherboard or the processor.

Definitely worth buying.

This is a must have for anyone installing the 2011 sockets... It comes with a easy tune program that will overclock your cpu and has a lovely bios. Plenty of sockets for usb's memory etc... only thing missing is the wi-fi but bought a TP-Link TL-WN781ND 150Mbps Wireless PCI Express Adapter which was easily fitted and has been great. This motherboard is highly recommended.
