I am very pleased with this Motherboard, bought to replace a Asus board. Never bought Gigabyte before, but have heard good things over the years. The bios menu is laid out in a simple manner but very easy to navigate. I have only had Asus boards for the last 8yrs which have lovely menu's but have screen after screen sometimes of sub menu's. This board has the main menu, then One sub menu for each thing, plenty of things to fiddle and tweak with ram, cpu, gpu etc. Can do auto overclock, or manual if you know more about what youre doing. The sata connecters are placed on the side of the board, good for cable management to keep things tidy but can be fiddly aswell. Usb headers for the front panel are the same, But the USB3 header isnt, it has a special connector specific to USB3, so if youre case like mine has only got USB2 front panel, will have to buy a front panel to fit into the floppy space or dvd space. For me I dont have anything thats USB3 yet so If I do get something will use the USB3 connectors on the back of the case. The Gigabyte Easy Energy saver for me took a bit of getting behind, got everything installed, got windows loaded. Monitoring software read the core speed of my Phenom II 955 at 800mhz? It turns out that when its not needed the motherboard turns down the CPU to save on power, when its needed all 4 cores kick in instantly. This can be disabled in the bios, but Ive left it on. The Bios for this board has been updated to take the new AM3+ cores FX series, I would thou check on Gigabytes webpage for the specifics.
Update, I wanted to add on to this review after seeing the review about problems with support for the AMD FX processors, I checked my own boards bios version to see if mine had been updated to take the new FX chips as the stickers on the box claims (I've got a older Phenom II so not a problem for me), It has, version F3, some sellers with older stock will have boards I guess that have the first bios version F1 which arent compatible and need the bios updating, but if you dont have a CPU to install that will work, the bios can't be updated. To help It not being like russain roulette whether you get an updated board or not, I bought mine from Amazon direct and not thru a marketplace seller and is ready to take the FX chips. To check youre bios version, when starting up and you get the "beep" press "del" to enter bios, then press F9 and will show what bios version you have.
