I've been working on an Intel NUC for a while now with no problems at all. Unfortunately for a project I am doing I need a RealTek NIC, and all the NUCs have Intel NIC.

I was impressed by the supplier (Kikatek). I ordered yesterday afternoon and it arrived this morning. As I work on Linux, I had to enter the BIOS and enable CSM so I could disable UEFI and boot off of the mSATA disk I took out of the NUC. Everything just worked thereafter.

My only gripe is the build quality. The NUC chassis is a single aluminium casting, in comparison the BRIX is a flimsy bit of formed sheet metal.

Highly suggest buying, 10 out of 10 on processor and graphics 3 July 2014
By Andres Schmois - Published on Amazon.com

I upgraded from the AMD A8 version as that one was running slow for my developing purposes. I run pretty heavy duty (resources intensive) code and all in Ubuntu 14.04 and must say it runs faster than my large desktop back home. Small, compact, beautiful design, amazing graphics output resolution, faster than my i7 3rd generation, and fully compatible with Ubuntu 14.04.

One small comment which Gigabyte refused to try to fix since they only do Windows support (not their fault): If running Ubuntu 14.04, make sure you're downgrade the kernel to the '-24' version. The updated one is the one after, '-30', which will crash upon boot (a kernel panick). To fix it, just boot up again, select "Advanced Ubuntu options" and go down to normal (not safe mode) on the '-24' kernel. Once inside, follow this stack to downgrade the kernel:

Installs and runs Ubuntu 14.10 great 19 Dec. 2014

I'm a web developer and I purchased this for a dedicated Linux development machine. I received it today installed a 240gb Sandisk Ultra II and 16gb of ram. I'm writing this review on the machine. The hard drive and RAM where a snap to put in. Four screw on the base plus another 6 secure the drive and chassis. I was concerned reading some of the reviews if people using Linux. I can say it was smooth, fast and trouble free install. I didn't do any adjustments to the BIOS (although you may have to to run multiple syatems on it). I installed the ram, ssd drive, and ethernet cable and used a usb bootable install of Ubuntu 14.10. Installed lightning fast with no issues. Wireless works flawlessly (I'm using a Netgear NIGHTHAWK ac1900) and the machine is fast and silent. The shipping was fast and the machine was packed nicely.

I highly recommend this machine. Without seeing this computer in person it's hard to ascertain the actual size, this computer is tiny. it's about the length of a computer mouse but squared. It's heavy and well made has a high quality look to it in person.

Graphics as quick at the Brix Pro i7 4770R 28 Jan. 2014
By Chris - Published on Amazon.com
I ordered the i7 4770R BRIX Pro, but I missed out on stock and there is no ETA. So opted for the i5 model that was instock and though I would give it a go. Its great. Fan noise is very quite unlike Anandtech's review saying it was very loud. But that was an i7. I find the system fan to be very well controlled. It ramps up with the load and you can hear it. It gets loud but only when pushing the GPU/CPU gaming and benchmarking etc. Speaking of which this Iris Pro runs 150Mhz less than the i7 model. However my bench marking tests in 3dmark11 and 3dmark13 showed its the a little more was what Anatech got in there review (GPU scores) [...] The only difference is the stronger CPU vs this models weaker one. 150 Mhz difference does not seem to make a difference!

If your not encoding 3K videos or video editing etc. Or needing 8 threads Vs 4 threads. The i5 is PERFECTLY fine. And I can play modern games like BF4 Med setting (No AA) and games like CS:GO at 1080p high settings very playable.
The form factor is great, I installed a Samsung 250GB Evo and it fly's. I will add another drive soon for storage.

Modern design, but not a budget gaming computer when you get to the bottom line 31 Oct. 2014
By Oscar - Published on Amazon.com
Some people seems to rate BRIX PRO as a great budget gamer computer, but I'd beg to differ. After adding 8GB memory and a reasonable HD or SDD you are well into a $700+ category.
For that same money you can get or build 6-core AMD FX 6300 with GeForce 750 Ti which will outperform the BRIX for 3D games by a huge margin (Iris 5200 has G3D benchmark of 1230 vs GeForce 750TI benchmark of 3690). Of course you won't get the super cute palm-sized factor.
Which is precisely what you pay for here, and that has to be very clear for everyone who is buying this.

As a "gaming" computer it is rather overpriced for the lack of video card power and you can do better with your money.
As a small format computer it is pretty amazing - it looks bigger on the picture than in the real life. I sort of expected it to be size of gamecube when the package arrived. But after I opened the box, I literally said "wow" out loud. It simply is tiny by all means.

The i5 has enough power for most of the tasks you throw at it, including video editing or 3D design. Also for most of the office type tasks the BRIX is seriously quiet. It gets louder only when you start doing intensive task, such as rendering or run 3D games, but even so it should be considered pretty quiet. Because of the on-board CPU+GPU, the total power consumption is even in its peak about half of what you would need for similarly priced low consumption gaming computer.

What brings the system down is as expected the Iris PRO 5200 GPU. It is definitely better than the typical Intel HD 4XXX often used in low priced notebooks but it isn't still nearly close to any of the medium priced AMD or GeForce cards. (like the 750 Ti)
This will appear very obvious in modern games where you would need to budget the resources a bit or your FPS will go rapidly down (for example the iris will choke on aliasing).

I run this BRIX for 3D modelling software and it is a smooth ride, with occasional games where it is still ok. It is a respectable home computer but not a gaming computer. Gigabyte sells one more expensive with the GeForce GTX 760 GPU which may be a better idea if you need small factor for games.

As a tiny computer I would totally recommend it to anyone. As a gaming computer I would recommend it 80% (you could do better for the same money if you don't stick to the small factor). One great thing is you get the most current technology in it, like USB3, mSATA socket, BT 4, robust wifi card.... so it doesn't feel like you work with last year tech.

Also at first it wasn't very obvious what I have to do to boot from CD or USB, all my first attempts to install Win 7 from usb DVD failed until I went to a forum and learned what needs to be disabled in the bios. A small piece of paper in the box with the simple instructions would be enough.
