I have to say I find AMD's rebranding exercise confusing. The R9 270 is AMD's replacement for the HD7850 but it's actually the same spec GPU as the old HD7870, but with faster memory (5600mhz R9 270 vs 4800mhz HD7870) and a lower GPU clock (925mhz R9 270 vs 1ghz HD7870). The result of this is the performance of the two cards in stock form is about equal, but with the R9 270 using a bit less power.

This card differs from the reference model in having a very different twin fan heatpipe cooler, and the GPU is overclocked by 50 mhz to 975mhz. It also requires 2 x 6pin PCIe connectors compared to the reference cards 1 PCIe connector requirement. The box states a 500 watt PSU or greater is needed. It should fit in most mid sized cases as it's not a very long card. The cooler takes up an additional slot.

The card has 2 x DVI connectors, a Display Port connector and one HDMI. The box contains PCIe to Molex power adapters, and a Crossfire connector. No VGA to DVI adaptor is included.

The cooler works very well. I have so far not seen temperatures rise above 61 degrees either during gaming or using SETI@Home. It idles in the low 30's. Noise at idle is not noticeable over other fans in my PC (quiet). During gaming a gentle hum from the fans can be heard, but it's unobtrusive. The big 100mm fans spin at low speed and are not noisy.

As for gaming performance, what can I say? It handles anything I've thrown at it and it's a massive step up from my old HD5770 card. Many in depth reviews of R9 270's are on the internet if you want to search them out.

Given that the price for this is about the same as a reference card, I would choose this every time.

This card is amazing as it can easily play most games on high and ultra settings with always more than 30 FPS! The card is not that long and will fit easily in most ATX cases. It has 2 huge fans on the cooler, which are amazing as they deliver great cooling with barely any noise coming from it! The card is about 60 degrees under a load while a mere 30 degrees while idle. It supports Eyefinity technology as well as Mantle which will give the card even more performance in the future! I can't ask for a better card at this price! This is the first computer I have ever built and it was a massive upgrade from the cheap 20 pound card I had before! At this price you will not find a better card, and will deliver awesome performance, guaranteed!

I purchased this card to place in my new entry level amd gaming build to move away from the horrible world of laptops. This card was perfect for the job.
From what i can see it has a very good power to price ratio, it has about the same sort of power as an Nvidia gtx 660 but quite a bit cheaper. I have had this card for a few weeks now and it has done everything i have needed it to. With my amd fx-4130, this card and that cpu runs everything i have always wanted when on my old laptop (including all 140 games i could never run in my steam library)
Those of you who are first time building (like i was) this card is perfect for you, easy to install and not too expensive if anything goes wrong. I would recommend this to anyone who is upgrading from a laptop any day, it has a highly noticeable difference in fps.

I read everywhere that the card is too loud but I did not notice. So I did not mind this too much. If you are looking for not expensive and fast graphics card I would recommend.

Very good graphics card for the money, perfect for gaming in high settings with around 55-70 fps for most games such as battlefield 4, far cry 3 ext.
