The book is broken down into 5 chapters. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and celebrations. Like all cookery books I tried some of the recipes. The Turkish Delight, stollen, shortbread's and the marshmallows all worked incredibly well. Some of the recipes need a couple of hours of prep and obviously because of the type of ingredients for all but the pickles, comfits, jams and chutneys will not store for very long. The pictures are fine and give an indication about possible presentation whilst the instructions are clear and concise. This cookbook is a keeper. I find its sweets/desserts excellent and would put it on a par with the superb Hope & Greenwood confectionery book "Life is Sweet".

I was given this gorgeous book by a friend, and I have just ordered another 2 books for gifts. This book is what it says in the title irresistible homemade presents, it is going to save me a fortune in making pressies for loved ones especially at this time of year, and no doubt I'll have hours of untold fun in the kitchen with my kids, cooking is our fave past-time. I can't wait to try Sea-salted caramels, I'm only worried about how many I might eat! This weekend we made love Heart sugar cubes for my parents wedding anniversary and no-one could believe I had actually made them. There are also lots of lovely presentation ideas which is something I usually get stuck on. Brilliant!

Whether you like to potter in the kitchen and make things already, or this is new to you as the idea just appeals (that is, a personal and rather thrifty way of giving really original presents) then this book is for you. It caught my eye during a recent weekly food shop (it is 14.99 in Waitrose at the mo, so is MUCH cheaper on here at time of writing) and I just couldn't resist to help me get ahead with my Christmas pressie planning and an upcoming baby shower too.

Full of beautiful photos and pretty-as-a-picture wrapping ideas too, the book is split into seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, obv.) to make good use of seasonal produce - but also a lovely Celebration section to cover: wedding cakes, little Baby Shower cakes, New Years Eve, Divali, Christmas, Jewish Celebrations, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, Valentines, Housewarmings and Chinese New Year. There's also a helpful planner at the back to suggest gifts for other occasions such as for House Guests, Birthdays and Hen Nights (you'd be the best Bridemaid ever giving Rhubarb and Vanilla Vodka wrapped up in a basket with a bag of cute little Fortune Cookies or perhaps the Pink Raspberry Swirl Meringues).

This book is beautiful, the vibrant photographs are total food seduction, I fell in love with it in an instant. After a quick flick through I knew several of the recipes would be perfect for Christmas presents. The gifts range from preserves to a wedding cake, confectionery to pickles, and biscuits to beverages.

So far I've made pickled beetroot, cherry tomato and sweet chilli jam, limoncello, and mango chutney. As I am a complete novice when it comes to home-made preserves and pickles, I have found the recipes lack certain details, for example, how long certain ingredients will take to cook, reduce and thicken, and what consistency, is right for a jam or chutney etc. So I have had to look up tips and advice on Google. I have also found the quantity of jars the author claims each recipe will make is totally inaccurate, which is a slight irritation as now I will end up with less presents to go round! So just be aware of this. However in terms of the actual recipes, they are brilliant. Even with just a tiny taste whilst cooking I can tell these will be delicious! The ingredients, in particular the combination of spices are authentic and add a real luxury flavour to the recipes. I can't wait for my family and friends to open them up at Christmas!

I do agree with other reviewers here, who say a lot of the recipes (the majority) have a short shelf life. However, I can deal with this as I have chosen recipes I can make now for Christmas (the preserves). And will use other recipes in the week leading to Christmas, for example Stollen and Panforte to eat during the festivities. I can imagine I will also use them in the future for all sorts of occasion, where I can make sweets or cakes to bring and share with everyone on the day.

The variety and quality of these recipes make this a great book. If you are new to home-made gifts, buy this! It's a huge inspiration, and I can't wait to make my next gift :)

I love this book - so much so that I'm inspired to write my first ever Amazon review.
The gift ideas are numerous, high quality, easy to follow & I can honestly say there is nothing naff whatsoever (unlike so many project / craft books).
The photos & packaging ideas are brilliant.
Another reviewer has mentioned short eat by dates - I don't agree! Firstly there is a good variety, & secondly as these recipes have no nasty ingredients in, it is no surprise that they won't last forever, besides they look so good that they won't be left around long enough for it to be a problem anyway.

Ok maybe it's altruistic to present someone with a book how to make Gifts from the Kitchen because with wonderful things in here you're bound to have at the back of your mind that you wish the recipient would make something in it for you. I first received a copy of this at a cookery class and highly recommend it for anyone who likes making stuff rather than buying it.

Not just limited to Christmas presents, Annie Rigg shows an array of foodie presents suitable for all occasions during the year and various family members. Every item is beautifully presented giving you inspiration to wrap, bottle and label your wares in your individual style.

My favourite items are:
Barfi decorated with silver leaf;
Home made limoncello
Fennel seed, chilli and parmesan grissini

A few things aren't pictured hence my giving this a 4 not 5. Those pictures that there are being so expertly styled I feel a bit cheated by the ones that are missing!
