Review

Here's a celebration of joyful crafting and gracious giving. It features designs for small but lively gifts from wearable accessories such as hats, scarves, wraps and ear muffs to household fun including a tea cosy, pincushion, needle case and egg cosies. It's for knitters and crocheters with any level of experience and time. Each project is customized with finishing touches including beads, buttons, needle felting, applique and embroidery making it personal and extra special. Gifted will inspire you to invest a little time and love creating something special for someone - even if that someone special is you!-Machine Knitting Monthly Featuring a range of designs for small but lively presents, this book teaches readers how to create everything from hats, scarves and ear muffs, to tea cosies, needle cases and pin cushions. Ideal for beginners and more experienced crafters alike, it encourages customers to experiment with a range of different techniques, including beading, applique and embroidery. Boasting beautiful photography throughout, it is the ultimate reference guide for individuals hoping to add a special something to their Christmas gifts this year.-Craft Business A collection of 34 craft projects. The author, Mags Kandis, combines knitting, crochet and felting techniques in this appealing and accessible collection of things to make. Interestingly, in giving her book the title 'Gifted', Kandis refers not to the talents of the maker, or to the item being given, but to the recipient of the gift. It is an inspiring book by an experienced knitwear designer who really encourages crafters to develop her designs for themselves rather than replicate them exactly. She also includes four recipes for food gifts, including 'ginger syrup' and 'tomato jam'. This book would make a lovely surprise gift for an individual crafter or for a family.-Education Otherwise We're all thinking ahead to Christmas and if you're knitting gifts, treat yourself to this book. For inside are some super patterns for little items that won't take long to do. There are pretty crocheted earmuffs, knitted apre ski socks, a double-pointed needle case, felted egg cosies and lots more. Customise the projects with buttons, beads, applique and embroidery - Mags shows you how. She also dots recipes throughout the book so you can make edible gifts to complement the knitted ones, for example ginger syrup (for hot drinks) to go with the felted tea cosy.-Knit Today This book is filled with exactly what it says on the tin - lovely little things, the sort of items that make good presents or charity sale donations. Also included to make the gifts more special are recipes for both edible and sweetly scented treats to make your handmade presents seem even more generous. When Christmas (or the festival of your choice) is just around the corner a book like this is a one-stop shopping experience. Divided into two halves, you can pick from gifts for the bodyA" and gifts for the soulA". The body includes various wearables such as caps, scarves, jewelry, baby items, bags and more. The soul section contains items that are not wearable, although quite why these are for the soul eludes me in most cases. Choose from egg cozies, crocheted flowers, needlecases, pincushions, and scented sachets to name a few. Intermediate yarncrafters will find plenty to inspire in here, as well as projects that include felting, embroidery, beading and other embellishments. If you don't know how to do these things you won't learn how in here, but this is a book of projects not a primer. There are four recipes and these include ideas as to what to include with them, such as the mulling spice mix, which is a natural partner for the felted crochet circles to adorn a Christmas tree. At the back a few stitches are shown, as well as different casting on methods, some embroidery stitches, a useful glossary of terms and a page of US stockists. This book will have especial appeal for those of you who love to felt, but feel that there are not many books of projects around once the technique has been learned.-Myshelf.com The tempting treats in this book are divided into 'Gifts for the body' and 'Gifts for the soul'. The former are wearable knits, mostly designed for women and babies, while the latter include decorative and practical items for the home. There are also some innovative repurposed gifts, such as an old jumper that gains a new life as a pair of felted arm cosies. On the subject of creativity, the author is a believer in the adage "there are no mistakes - just opportunities", and this playful approach shines through in her imaginative and thoughtful gifts.-The Knitter

What fun! 9 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
This book arrived last friday and I was immediately inspired and made a couple of the projects over the weekend. I started with the original, and went on to develop the ideas in my own style. If you love messing about with yarn this book is a lot of fun. Beautifully photographed, with clear diagrams of stitches, it is easy to use. The only critisim I have it that it does not give clear 'felting' directions for those that don't already know how to do it and all of the yarns specified are american. Although it is not essential to use the exact yarn for most of the projects, it would be nice to have the UK equivalent shown.

This is a beautiful little book with lots of ideas, and I think I will end up making most of the items. It is an American book, and most of the yarn suggestions are American brands so know the tensions before going to the wool shop so you can get suitable substitutes. A quick google search on the brand will give you the information you need. I have only made one item so far, and the instructions were easy to follow, and it did not take very long to complete. A lovely gift for a deserving Auntie!

beautiful projects 24 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a gorgeous books with lots of lovely projects, only downside is that i wanted it for crochet projects rather than knitting, and it has mainly knitting projects. So if you can only crochet probably not the best book for you. It has inspired me to improve my knitting though!!!
