Product Description

Using the proven methods he developed to overcome dyslexia, Ron Davis adapts those techniques to help sufferers triumph over a variety of common learning disabilities, including: · Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) · ADHD (the hyperactive variety) · Math deficiency (dyscalculia and acalculia) · Handwriting problems (dysgraphia and agraphia) Outlining clear instructions, the author demonstrates that through a series of mental and physical exercises called "Orientation Counselling" and learning tools called "Symbol Mastery," those struggling with these conditions can now learn how to correct them, embrace their gift, and enjoy learning.

Ron Davis has in this book created some easy to follow, incredibly effective ways of dealing with a wide range of learning challenges. The only two slight downsides appear when compared with Ron's first book, The Gift of Dyslexia - this book does not have as many inspirational personal stories as the first one, and it is a thick book with a lot of content, so not a easy to read for dyslexics. Still, I would definitely sai this is a must read for anyone working with or dealing with dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADD or Ad/HD (hyperactivity).

The Gift of Learning: Proven New Methods for Correcting Add, 13 Aug 2003
By Nancy Kress - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Anyone dealing with problem students will find this book to be a five-star wonder. Even if you're not the teacher, the understanding you get by reading this book will help you deal with the problem learner in a whole new (and better) way because you better understand the nature of the problem. Ron Davis not only understands the visual/experiential learner, but he can explain WHY there is a problem---like the difference between a number and numeral, and how a particular thought process can have great difficulty with the symbols of the numerals and letters. His explanation of why some students can't seem to read handwriting---even when it's their own---and how to "erase" the problem letters and then ingrain a new handwriting that will be legible is so easy to understand and simple to address, it is a wonder the process hasn't been invented before. While this book might not have wide appeal (how many are dealing with problem students?) it is a MUST READ for those who are in need of correcting addition, math, and handwriting problems.

If your child is experiencing learning problems and you don't want to use medication - this is the book for you! Easy to follow "how to" that leads you step by step through the process necessary for overcomimg problems with handwriting, math or ADD. Ron Davis uses very clear, easy to understand language, and writes from more than two decades of personal experience in the field. A great resource for any family with a child who is not achieving his or her potential!

This book gives you a REAL solution 4 Jun 2011
By Axel Gudmundsson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My wife is dyslexic, dyspraxic and ADD, but this did not stop her getting two degrees and leading a successful career. In her late thirties, while training to become a psychotherapist, she came across The Gift of Dyslexia, Revised and Expanded: Why Some of the Smartest People Can't Read...and How They Can Learn and went through a Davis programme. It transformed her life to the extent that I have now trained to deliver the Davis dyslexia and ADD programmes. I believe this was one of the best decisions in my life. I now enjoy working with highly intelligent people unleashing their full potential, and I can not imagine anything more fulfilling as a line of work. Ron's second book, the Gift of Learning is crammed full of practical how-to instructions which truly work. In fact that is the only down-side of this book, compared to his first book The Gift of Dyslexia, Revised and Expanded: Why Some of the Smartest People Can't Read...and How They Can Learn, this new one is a bit too much like a manual. It does not have the same amount of inspirational stories as his first book. Nevertheless, the procedures in this book WORK. If you have a child struggling with maths, ADD, AD/HD, or handwriting issues, this book is one of the very few out there which will actually show WHAT YOU CAN DO about it.
