Simple idea, but a good strategy game to get the kids thinking.
This one is made of good quality wood and looks good and solid.

My wife and I have had a set for a few years so we bought three sets for our grown up children. Once or twice a week a game is great therapy. Two people using three colours each, or three people using two two colours each.
Great, involving, simple and intelligent fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Essential extras missing 24 Mar 2011

Whilst the Chinese Chequers board is beautifully made and the wood is good quality and nice to the touch, a couple of vital things have been omitted.

The board should have had lines drawn on it, showing which moves are permitted and which are not. (Easier for people learning the game to explain that you can't move across a diamond shape). Also, the colours should have been painted (blocked in) showing where 'Home' is. Simpler then for someone using the red counters, for example, to head for the red Home.

I bought this game for a local Hospice Day Unit, but am slightly disappointed that these finishing touches were not made. (I didn't spot the flaws until the packaging had been taken off).

A well-crafted, high-quality wooden board and six sets of 10 coloured chequers. I was surprised to learn from reading the box that this game was originally invented in Germany in 1893 as 'Stern-Halma' and was based on an earlier version called 'Halma'. The name 'Chinese Chequers' was actually coined for the American market to make it more exotic-sounding! It's a wonderful game of strategy and tactics that's great fun for all the family. I remember playing Chinese Chequers when I was younger and it's nice to now share that same enjoyment with my own children.

This is a very nice game. The board is very smooth and nicely finished. Its holes are perfectly drilled. The playing pieces are wooden, painted in six different colours. A pleasure to own and play with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good family game 15 Feb 2013

Nice sturdy wooden family game. Great to go back to tradition rather than flimsy plastic games. Enjoyed by all ages, would say 5 upwards. Encourages lateral thinking. Highly recommend. Great price on Amazon too.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun and games 16 Jan 2013
I purchased this game to play with my granddaughter age 4yrs. Once past my own unrealistic expectations it has been great fun. The wooden pegs are much better for a person this age. We tryed the games that used marbles, they were to unstable and we spent a lot of time on the floor looking for them. I would definitely recomend this game. The rest of the family all play and enjoy it.
