This game unlike the more junior risk involves no element of luck. The game is won with diplomacy, your negotiations with other players, and your skill as a commander. All pieces move simultainously, with each player writing their orders at the same time leaves the game open to complex alliances, with each player crossing and double-crossing in turn.
The game starts in 1901, and the game somehow shows each each European power performs best with its natural allies. The unholy alliance that never happened Germany and England taking on Russia is a possibility, England and France never get on...but if they do ther world (and all of Europe) is their oyster. The Balkans as usual are a total mess, and Italy is rubbish.
A very addictive game that can teach you more about pre world war II politics in Europe than any book, best with 5 or more players though, and it takes a LONG time.
