Product Description

Product Description

The afternoon of 16th May 1943 marked a historic war time event steeped in heroism. This 636 piece jigsaw puzzle commemorates the 70th anniversary of The Dambusters.

Depicting an iconic Lancaster Bomber, the puzzle reminds us of a mission led by Guy Gibson and the men of 617 Squadron. They had to learn extraordinary flying skills for Operation Chastise, flying at a low level at night deemed difficult for even the most experienced pilots. However, using simple hand-held wooden triangles with dowel markers, it took five attempts for the 19 Lancasters, each with one bomb, to breach the Moehne Dam and subsequently the Eder Dam.

Eight of the Lancasters that set out that day did not return and 53 men lost their lives. However 33 surviving Dambusters were awarded honours and Guy Gibson received the country’s highest award for valour – the Victoria Cross.

The Dambusters jigsaw puzzle is the perfect memorial to all of these brave men and a coveted souvenir for those who wish to remember their bravery.

Beautifully illustrated by artist Philip West. All Gibsons jigsaws are a joy to handle and are made from the highest quality 100% recycled board.

4.0 out of 5 stars Picture is a bit tricky 19 Aug 2013

The only decent Lancaster jigsaw I could find for my elderly father who used to help maintain them just after the war. He loved the picture but found the large areas of sky and earth too tricky.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite tricky for a 636 piece jigsaw 1 July 2013

A lovely atmospheric picture by Philip West of Guy Gibson's Lancaster being prepared for the Dambusters Raid, against a cloudy evening sky.

For 636 pieces, this is actually quite a tricky jigsaw - the muted colours and shadows and the relatively large expanse of sky make it more difficult than some, but once complete it does make a truly evocative scene.

One for vintage aircraft fans and relatively experienced jigsaw-makers.

Another fabulous jigsaw by Gibsons. The Lancaster of Guy Gibson, VC being armed prior to the dambuster raid. For those who have an interest in the raid and love Lancaster Bombers then this jigsaw is for you. Not difficult at 636 pieces and obviously the makers have gone for the long look in the finished product. Again have had it framed on completion and hanging on my wall. Thank you Gibsons and keep them coming.....Can't buy them quick enough...........

3.0 out of 5 stars Jigsaw quality let it down 8 Jan 2014

The picture attracted me, and the pieces were thick, not flimsy. However, many of the pieces has fissures. I have taken advantage of the warranty offered and sent back 5 sample flawed pieces for a replacement pack, but so far it has not arrived.
