Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
It's been a while since I first watched the first part of the Yu-Gi-Oh series, and since I've started to watch it, it turned out to be quite frustrating wanting to play Duel Monsters but not being able to because:
a) I didn't know of any place where the cards were sold in the first place;
b) even if I knew, I wouldn't have anyone to play with.
I've got a PSX, a PS2 and a PS3, and so far, there wasn't a single Yu-Gi-Oh game I would dare to buy 'cause all the previews and reviews that I read about in magazines, or that I watched on TV shows all pointed out that those games weren't exactly like playing Duel Monsters the way we see in the series. So, my hunger got supressed until a few months ago, when I came across this title: Yu-Gi-Oh GX: Tag Force Evolution.
The first thing that catches your eye in the description of the game is that it says: Experience the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG (Trading Card Game). And it's true!
In this game you can play Duel Monsters exactly the way you saw it on the show.
You start the game by entering an academy of Duelists and you (that is, yourself) are the main character, or you can give another name to your character if you like. The point is, you are part of one of the teams of Duel Academy (there are at least three), and then you meet the characters of the Anime. They are all there: Jaden Yuki, Syrus Truesdale, his older brother Zane, Chumley Huffington, Alexis Rhodes, etc...
You get to attend classes wich will teach you how the game is played, and you get to have your own deck.
Of course, you won't get anywhere without a deck, so one will be given to you, and you start with low level monsters and trap/spell cards.

3.0 out of 5 stars A proper review for Yu-Gi-Oh! GX 10 Mar. 2010
By Nelson
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - Tag Force Evolution

Yugi GX is no where near as fun as Forbidden Memories, or Duelists of the Roses... in my personal oppinion.

But it's fun never-the-less... in it's own little way.

GX was made more for the younger gamers, rather than a Universal gender, which is a shame, because this game has a lot of potential which hasn't been put into practice.

For instance, they could have made 3D graphycs, rather than very cartoony ones... and it looks like the game was made by 10-year-olds, and executed by un-expirinced staff and low level programers.

Konami continues to lower their games standards, and that will cost them in the future, as more realistic graphycs are on demand.

Not much to add here, as a lot have been explained in the Fun section.

The game contains a lot of Must-Do tutorials, and you have to do it wether you like it or not.

Which in one way, it's fustrating for the high level players, but on the other hand it comes usefull for the new players.

GX contains far too many unecessary cards, and even for an intermediate level player, it's going to be hard to remember and master all those cards... and if that wasn't enough, the best cards were excluded from play; cards like Mirror Force and raigeki.
You can still collect them, but can't use them in play.
So I ask my self, what is the point in that?

Which also causes confusion when you are trying to build your deck, as the menus are way to complicated... even for an adult.

There are many ways to sort your cards, and tutorials that explain how to do so.
