This was a very interesting and helpful book for anyone interested in ghostwriting. It is aimed at those wishing to pursue it as a career, but is generally interesting for anyone who just wishes to learn about the process.

The structure was straightforward, the text easy, it wasn't too long nor arduous to read, and the voice of the author was encouraging and friendly. He clearly enjoys his work, and is enthusiastic towards it. He also sees the potential for others who might do so. The book sets out all the advantages and disadvantages of ghostwriting, how to know if it would work for you, how to begin working as a ghostwriter, how to publish, contracts and legal agreements, and so forth.

I felt that there were two real strengths to this book. In the first place, the author had a very humble attitude - he felt like a real person rather than a distant authority on the subject which is important if you the reader are to believe that you too can become a ghostwriter. Secondly, real examples from the authors ghostwriting books were included. These supported the points he was making but were also interesting in their own right.

It is not an expensive book and well worth the read.

Comprehensive Ghostwriting Guide 31 Jan 2010
By Mary Anne Benedetto - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a Certified Lifewriting Instructor, I am occasionally hired to capture the memoirs of clients who want their stories preserved but are unable or unwilling to write them. Ghostwriting by Andrew Crofts was the most comprehensive guide that I have been able to locate, and I especially appreciated Chapter 6-Contracts--Do You Need Them? This book is a MUST for serious, career ghostwriters.

Indispensable 23 May 2011
By Nicholas D Roesler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Crofts' GHOSTWRITING ranks alongside Stephen King's ON WRITING and Jennie Erdal's GHOSTING: A Double Life as absolutely indispensable volumes for a working writer.

I think it's an ideal volume for those anyone who has ever given thought to making a career as a freelancer or ghostwriter.

At times dry, perhaps, Crofts' GHOSTWRITING is exactly what it purports to be: a valuable textbook. Most definitely worth having as a reference volume, as it covers the profession of ghosting and provides a fair amount of insight into a segment of the writing profession that most rarely think about.

Certainly worth the read and purchase price. You will not be disappointed.

Honorable Mention 15 July 2010
By Susan Tidwell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Excerpts from Ghostwriting by Andrew Crofts was quoted many, many times in the novel The Ghost: A Novel (HARDCOVER) by Robert Harris. At the beginning of each chapter there is a quote from this handbook which I found added a lot to the story, helping me to understand what the ghostwriter was trying to achieve and the process used in writing someone else's story. I admit I have not read this handbook, just the many quotes from it, yet, but the glimpse into the life of a ghostwriter was very interesting, thanks to Andrew Crofts.
