5.0 out of 5 stars Something Original 11 Nov 2012
Format:Paperback
Became a favourite for my toddler and still maintains a regular place in our household rotation of night time reading several years later. Lovely, original and quirky artwork and a simple and charming story with a subtler message attached.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost too simple 13 Oct 2012
By Mumsy
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
While the artwork for this book is certainly different and the idea behind the story is really sweet, I found it a bit too simple - even for small kids. There's only a few lines (about 18 sentences) of reading so it's really about showing your child the images and letting them take what they want from that but even that felt a bit 'blah' for me I'm afraid.
The story flows very poorly from page to page so reading it is a bit disjointed - especially when you have to stop to look at the pictures (sometimes the pictures tell you things that the text doesn't so you *have* to look at them) - I'm never a fan of having to turn a page to finish a sentence if it wasn't a 'natural' place for a pause in reading.
I can't see this becoming a regular read in our house. I think the best I can hope for is that when the kids are learning to read for themselves it might be good practice for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Perfect. 5 Oct 2008
By Jodi Renshaw - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This delightful, simple halloween story is so different from the rest of the preschool halloween titles out there. It tells the tale of a young witch who enters a haunted house but is not afraid because she is going to capture the ghosts and put them to better use. She uses her magic to capture the ghosties - and then washes them all in the washer machine and hangs out them out to dry on the line. When dried, she makes curtains, tablecloths and bed sheets out of them. And they all lived happily ever after.

Very sweet. Just one or two lines per page. AMAZING artwork. It looks like block printing with some sheer paper overlay (for the ghosts). Depicts a brave girl and an alternative way to take charge of things that may at first seem scary.

My 3 year old son loves it. With this book, he embraces the idea of a ghost, instead of being afraid of them.

Highly recommended for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Artwork, Great Story 17 Oct 2008
By Paul A. Fucito - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I grabbed this book for my toddler son who loves Halloween, ghosts, and monsters, after seeing the striking artwork on a table of children's Halloween books. The artwork is superb, the story is simple and fun, and I guarantee this will end up a cherished children's classic as time goes by. My son loved it so much, he fell asleep with this book in his bed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Preschool Halloween Storytime 5 Oct 2010
By J. Prather - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
So when you are trying to walk that fine line between cute and scary for Halloween, this one is your perfect solution. We have ghosts and witches... but wait! These ghosts go in the washing machine and make lovely curtains. It's a fun, whimsical concept that works well for toddlers and young preschoolers while still giving them that small thrill that comes from reading a "ghost story". The art work is amazing; the ghosts seem to fly off the page and stand out beautifully on that frightfully orange and black background. This is a truly unique book and a big recommend for story time due to its not so scary content, its spare text and beautiful artwork. The kids will laugh when they see those ghosts hanging on the clothesline to dry! A great find and a great choice for your permanent holiday collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars board book too please 22 Nov 2010
By Auntie Claus - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I went to the bookstore in October to find a book for my daughter's first Halloween. Out of everything on the table, this was the ONLY book that was well illustrated and well written. The pictures are beautiful (I don't think the cover quite does justice to the inside of the book were space is used more, well, artfully), the story is cozy. Now if they'd just make a board book edition that she could get her hands on, we'd be set. P.S. If your kids are older, maybe 5 and up, you might also like The Widow's Broom for another clever and beautiful Halloween book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming book for preschoolers and gradeschoolers 26 April 2009
By Miss Peabody - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my daughter at the suggestion of the New York Times, which listed it as one of the top children's books of 2008. Unlike some of the other books that made that list, this book is great. The story is charming and engaging and the illustrations are quite interesting. My almost-three-year-old daughter asks me to read it again and again (even five times in a row...)!
