I own a few books now by Billy Roberts and confess to being a fan of his writing style. This latest release seems to continue his high standard of authorship, and is certainly an entertaining read.

Some of these books on paranormal events can be a little florid. Far too padded with literary fat which can turn the reading pleasure into a chore. Billy has a much more spare, concise style to his writing and this anthology of paranormal events is definitely in that vein. Rather than a book of self-help or research this is Billy at his storytelling best, drawing from curated events and some of his own experience as a working medium and parapsychologist.

If you like your ghostly matters and read widely, then it's well worth having in your collection. To try and summarise the content here would be to spoil the review as in this respect content is everything and it's definitely entertaining and occasionally chilling. The subject matter is a wide spectrum of stories and events so it doesn't become just a run-of-the-mill ghost story tome where it descends into repetition, and that kept me reading rather than putting the book down constantly and coming back to it half-heartedly.

A great page-turner. Five stars.

I couldn't put this book down and read it through in one sitting. I've read many of Billy's books and have always liked the way he writes. He has a way of turning a simple tale into a thrilling story. I found it rather laughable when I read one of the reviewers remarks that some of the stories are ridiculous and unbelievable, with no evidence to support them! Yeah, whatever. Billy's stories have an extremely broad appeal and contain sufficient material to make a TV film. I loved the book and can't wait for a sequel. Easily worth a five star rating. Excellent and highly recommended.

Me and My husband have just finished reading this book. It was so good we even read some of it again. it is still by my bedside. The book is full of all different tales of the paranormal unknown. You can really get into the story. There is no boring theory before each tale. The tales are just related as if you were sitting by the fire and someone was telling you a story. Yet each story is written eloquently and with panache and and decadence. It is a luxurious book very well written and there is not one boring story in the whole book. I am so glad we got it. We can not wait for more books of this calibre.

I am not surprised there are not many left. There seems to be a thirst for this kind of book at the moment... This book dose justice to the paranormal world.

My husband and I loved this book. words here can not do it justice, you would have to read it yourself.
I would just really recommend it and I have read loads of this kind of book, by different authors and I can tell you billy is a author a cut above the rest, you can see the hard work and pure dedication to getting the story right that Billy has put into this book. and this is one I can read again and again. There is not many books you can say that about. It is just a unique book. GET IT NOW before there sold out.

Reads more like an anthology of short stories, not very realistic 10 April 2014
By Majanka - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ghostly Tales wasn’t what I expected at all. I request almost any true haunting book I can get my hands on, because I love the genre. But for this one, I’ll make an exception. It doesn’t sound like a true haunting book at all – and that’s my major issue with the book. The stories in here are just stories. There’s no claim to the truth of the stories, we don’t even know if they’re real, or if the author just made them up. The stories are short, we feel no connection to the people mentioned in the stories, and in general, they could just be campfire stories, rather than real life accounts by a ghost hunter.

Some of the stories are downright ridiculous. I remember at the start there was a story about a man who’d passed away and visited his own funeral…yeah, and how would you know that?

Basically this reads more like an anthology of scary short stories than a non-fiction book. I’m not convinced at all that any of the stories mentioned here are true, since there’s no, or little, research, and some stories are very farfetched. Not impressed.

A delightful collection of hair-raising tales 30 Mar. 2014
By Rob Slaven - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
As usual I paid nothing for this book but instead received it for free in exchange for a review. Despite NetGalley's kindness I give my scrupulously honest opinions below.

This book is pretty simple. It's just a collection of haunting tales. You could have guessed that by the title alone, I'm sure. But what it is NOT is any attempt to analyse or explain anything. It's just straight-up campfire-grade spooky stories.

To the positive side, I give the author credit for just getting down to it. There is a bit of an introduction but not much and the stories just start right up without excessive preamble. Our tales of horror are divided into handy categories and were all sufficient to raise a bit of gooseflesh on me though I did prime things rather well by laying abed by myself in the dark before reading. It wasn't enough to keep me up but it did keep me thinking.

To the negative, I'm not going to make any comments about whether you should believe any of these stories because, let's face it, you'll believe what you want to. However, these did seem to all fall along pretty common lines and you could place each story in some movie or some TV show of the past. I picked out a couple of Twilight Zone plots pretty easily and I'm sure most of these either have their roots in or have inspired some fictional retelling along the way. As I said, it's up to your belief system which way that pendulum swings.

In summary, this is a nice, tidy collection of hair-raising tales that are either just nice stories or real-life accounts of encounters with the supernatural. Which is it? That's your decision.

They just seem like a piece of the story 29 Jun. 2014
By heather - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Billy Roberts has written a book of short stories that he claims are true stories. The stories are disjointed, no real background or story development. They just seem like a piece of the story. You will either like this book or not.
COMPELLING READ 3 Jun. 2014
By The Watcher! - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I am now a huge fan of Billy Roberts. I have ready a few of his books and enjoy his easy-to-read style. Ghostly Tales is an eclectic collection of various supernatural tales, the majority of which he has actually investigated, and others the anecdotal accounts of other people's experiences. The lady who gave this book one star lives in Belgium and I would say is not really a fan of this sort of book. So I would say her comments are a little unfair to say the least, almost as though she resents Billy Roberts and his work. Nonetheless, if you like a good eclectic mix of ghost stories, then GHOSTLY TALES is the one for you. Highly recommended.
If you like good ghost stories... 15 April 2014
By Fuzzy's Mom - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Everyone likes a good ghost story and this book delivers a number of them. Roberts has included some personal experiences as well as some historical ones. Whether you are a believer or not, there are some real chills, thrills combined with some heart warming and heart wrenching stories.
Many of the stories take place around Liverpool UK and are new to me. As a fan of British ghost stories, especially based in London, these stories gave me an appreciation for something more than the British Invasion of the Beatles et al.
So if you are looking for an anthology where you can dip in and out and find an entertaining hour or two, this is a good book to pick up.
