A New Twist on the End of the World Theme 6 Feb 2012

Being a fan of short story collections I picked up this author's "Twisted Nightmares" and enjoyed it. I decided to take a chance on a full novel. It took me about a week to read which I didn't mind. Like I said I prefer a short story book I can pick up and put down. Let's get to breaking this book down.

The story itself followed a linear path. It was a slow build up and didn't pick up any major action till about the fifth or sixth chapter. You begin the book with the main character taking over a job from his boss. They are standing in a destroyed town. We find out our character is Mr. X. In the next few chapters you follow the main character Mr. X, and a hot assistant, Gabriel, as he heads to these destroyed towns and plows them under. As the story progresses you find out that Heaven and Hell are duking it out and using humans as soldiers. The Devil infects people with Vampirism and werewolfism(?sp) while God sends out his "Hammers" to collect souls and cleanse towns. You get the feeling there will be a big battle between both sides and there is.

The author seems to like his biblical names Gabriel, Michael, Eve....all hot BTW (they are angels, really with names like those.) The sex is intense but not overly graphic. The gore could have been a little bloodier.

I didn't like the end. I wanted a little more of what happened afterwards. The slow pace at the beginning did pick up and the action filled in at the right places. I agree with the previous poster, this book is not for kids. I give it a four because I had to go back a couple times and reread a sentence or two, but like I pointed out, I am a short story person. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes graphic violence, vampires, hot angels, werewolfs, zombies, demons and just about anything else you would throw into an end of the world book. I have a few others I need to read after this one but I see that the author has another one called "The Drifter".

Quality followup by Schwark 15 Jan 2012

Lauren Schwark is doing exactly what I hoped he would do--he's following up his first novel, The Drifter The Drifter, with a story that is not only intriguing and interesting, but much more mature in plot and character development.

If you're a fan of horror, and looking to get a taste of the stylings of an author who is a rising star in the genre, then you're going to want to read Lauren D. Schwark's Ghost Town.

Great detail and suspense! 25 Dec 2011

I have never been much of a book reader. This book was presented to me on my birthday because I am a huge fan of anything horror related. I decided what the hell and gave it a shot. I opened the book and didn't put it down until I was finished. This writer kept my interest the whole way through. Tons of detail and kept me on edge. I would really like to see this book made into a movie some day. I would recommend this book to any horror reader, or fan. Can't wait for the next one to come out. Thumbs up for sure!
