Product Description

Product Description
A crack in time and a lost child mean trouble for Sarah Jane in this thrilling story, read by Elisabeth Sladen. Up early one morning, Sarah Jane is astonished to seethat the house opposite hers has changed overnight: what used to be a non descript 1970s family home has been replaced by a smart Victorian residence. How did a house from 1884 suddenly materialise in Bannerman Road? Where has the old O'Brien place gone? And more importantly, who - or what - has caused this temporal anomaly? Sarah Jane and friends must find out before time itself explodes and destroys the world...Elisabeth Sladen, who stars as Sarah Jane in the CBBC TV series, reads this exclusive audio story which has been written by bestselling author Stephen Cole. The cover photograph shows Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane with Anjli Mohindra as Rani, Thomas Knight as Luke, and Daniel Anthony as Clyde.

4.0 out of 5 stars crack in time, 1 Feb 2009

another talking book from the bbc based on the tv shows the sarah jane adventures, with elisabeth sladen who plays sarah jane smith on tv reading an all new story based on the programme. the disc runs for approximately one hour and five minutes.

As with the others in this range elisabeth sladen has an excellent reading voice and is a pleasure to listen to, and she does some good versions of the voices for the other characters from the programme, and some nicely varied ones for the other characters that are new to the story.

this story involves strange events on bannerman road, where sarah jane lives. an ordinary sunday morning is interrupted when sarah jane notices that a house on the road has suddenly been replaced by one from the 19th century. trying to investigate what has happened leads to an adventure involving travel between two different years, aliens, and a race against time to prevent the world being destroyed.

business as usual, then. but the story manages to succeed thanks to the quality of the production. all the characters are written well and you can imagine this story working on tv. and the atmosphere is very well done, using a piece of victorian style music that gets abruptly halted at points by events. the effect of this is very good. there are a couple of good moral lessons in it about communication and making the most of your life, but they never overwhelm things and make the listener think for themselves.

another decent listen in a decent range that will keep fans of the show more than happy

4.0 out of 5 stars Who Doesn't Like a Sarah Jane Adventure?, 15 April 2009
By Stephen M. Nolan (Newfoundland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Sarah Jane was one of my favourite companions from the classic Doctor Who era. I loved her coming back to the new Who and her series of adventures, even without K-9, are enjoyable. This CD is a stand alone adventure read by the lady herself and it is a nice, fresh 60+ minutes of fun. Without giving the plot away Sarah Jane and her friends struggle to understand the strange goings-on with a house just outside her front door. The only thing that would have made this a better production would have been to have the entire cast assembled to read their parts and a few more sound effects would have been nice as well. But these are small quibbles, the story is nice and Elizabeth Sladen once again shows that she is a good entertainer and storyteller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfyingly good, 14 Dec 2008
By Michele Fry (Oxford, England) - See all my reviews

The Sarah Jane Adventures: the Ghost House Stephen Cole has already written one excellent SJA audio story (The Glittering Storm) and I'm pleased to say he doesn't disappoint with The Ghost House either. The story moves between the present day and 1884 with ease, and is a compelling listen. The misunderstood alien bounty hunter (nicknamed "Deathy" because the Russian translation of his alien name is "Death, Kill, Massacre"), is an entertaining temporary addition to Sarah Jane's team. There are some good scenes for all three of the teenagers, who are brave and resourceful in trying to cope with being flung backwards and forwards in time via the Victorian house that's suddenly appeared in Bannerman Road. Definitely a story I recommend.
