Book Description

Hannah Taylor inherits her grandfather’s home in Ohio, but there are strings attached. She must share the house with Police Detective Donovan Kane and his family for a year, and if she doesn’t stay, Donovan gets the house. He’s sure Hannah won’t stay the full year and he’ll end up with the house. She agrees to live with him, but she’s not about to give him her home.

In a letter to Donovan, Grandpa said to “find the diaries, open the house, and send the wandering spirits on their way,” but nobody expects the old diaries to lead them to a secret staircase, a body buried in the basement, friendly ghosts, and enough love to last a lifetime.

“Don’t be afraid,” Grandpa said in a letter to Hannah.

Afraid of what, Grandpa?

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Cheer for the Ghosts! 4 Mar. 2012
By Vonnie Davis - Published on
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Families come in many forms. Big. Small. One Parent. In this book, Ms. Fineman gives us the unlikliest of families: one traumatized female, a wounded male, a love-starved little boy, an arthritic ex-cop, one almost likeable ex-husband and four vocal ghosts.

The terror comes from two sources. The husband of one of the ghosts and a vengeful corrupt policeman.

Strong characters, complex plot, tender love and evil forces combine for a read that will having you burning the midnight oil. Loved this story. Loved Donovan. Loved Billy. Loved Hannah. Loved it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ghost in the Basement 27 Feb. 2012
By D. Gatrell - Published on
    Format:Kindle Edition
When Hannah Taylor inherits her grandparents house, she never thought it would have a dead body in the basement and ghosts. She also never figured her grandfather would insist she share the old house with another family, a grandfather, his cop son and the cop's child.

After her father, who had been a policeman, died in the line of duty, Hannah had to live with her unfit mother. The only love she received was from her grandparents.

The old house needed fixed. She didn't have money. What in the world was she to do?

The cast of characters in this book are wonderful. From the cranky grandfather, to the son who didn't want to share the house anymore than Hannah did, to the child Hannah learns to love, you will find this book a wonderful read. It pulls you right in and makes you hope things will turn around for these people.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Old-fashioned Ghost Story! 29 Feb. 2012
    By Sandy - Published on
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Ghost in the Basement is filled with mystery, intrigue and romance...and did I mention the ghosts? It's a book that'll hook you from the first page and won't let you go until the end--even then, you'll still be thinking about the characters and their stories long after you've finished the book. Can't wait for more of the "Kane Family Ghosts"!

4.0 out of 5 stars Light Enjoyable Ghost Story! 1 Nov. 2012

This was a fun read. Easy not too heavy just light enough for a quick read. Sue Fineman is a new choice as an Author for me. After reading "The Ghost in the Basement," I downloaded her other books on my Kindle. The characters are fun and easy to like, with fast but a smooth moving plot. I laughed at the Heroine and enjoyed each page. This is not a serious book, just light hearted, not scary but interesting....just how I like a rainy day read.

    3.0 out of 5 stars schmaltz 24 Sept. 2012
    By jrv - Published on
    Format:Kindle Edition
This book was schmaltzy, heavy handed romance and emotionally smacked a little of christian fiction....I kept waiting gor the preaching to come, thankully it didn't. In spite of all of the above, I found myself liking this book. It is all the things I would normally dislike....all the main characters were nice, even the ghosts were nice. The bad guys or women were clesrly defined and tbe plot was obvious from the first page and it was neatly wrapped in a bow at the end, conveniently at Christmas. I found myself smiling at the end of the book....not what I expected and not sure I will read the 2nd one, but did find it enjoyable.
