Book Description

17 Dec 2013 Bradt Travel Guides
Friendly, safe and inexpensive, Ghana is an ideal destination for first-time visitors to Africa. It is rich in little-visited national parks, forest reserves, cultural sites and scenic waterfalls and blessed with bleached white beaches and the lush rainforest of the Atlantic coastline. Updated throughout, this revised guide includes authoritative history and wildlife sections, accommodation and restaurant recommendations and a wealth of background and practical information. Written by Africa expert Philip Briggs, it provides unrivalled detail and knowledge of this little-visited nation. This sixth edition is the first time the book has been updated by the original author since the 3rd edition. Philip has more than 20 years experience writing travel guides to Africa, and has overhauled the content to reflect broader changes in the Ghana travel scene over the past six years or so. This has resulted in a new look guide, with better maps, revised structure, along with the usual routine updating of all locations covered.

About the Author

Philip Briggs has been exploring Africa since 1986. He has visited more than two dozen African countries and written about most of them for specialist travel and wildlife magazines including Africa Birds & Birding, Africa Geographic, BBC Wildlife, Travel Africa and Wanderlust. He still spends at least four months on the road every year, usually accompanied by his wife, the travel photographer Ariadne Van Zandbergen, and spends the rest of his time in the sleepy village of Bergville, in the Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg region of South Africa.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartily recommend 24 Mar 2014
By AH - Published on Amazon.com

I direct a summer study abroad program in Accra for US students, and this is the guide I use and recommend to our participants. This is the third edition I've purchased, and I find it to be the most complete and accessible resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The" Guide for Ghana 18 Jun 2014
By D. K. Mckenzie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Anyone going to Ghana should have this guide ... and read most of it prior to the trip ... very helpful, useful, & enlightening information ... accurate and up to date. I had a Rotary mission trip to Ghana ( all over the country ) and this guide was "spot on" with most every location we traveled to ... even very remote tribal villages in the far north. I am now speaking to many groups about my mission trip and this guide is an excellent resource. Highly recommended !

5.0 out of 5 stars Has everything in it you need to know 25 Mar 2014
By K. Boyd - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book has exactly what I was looking for with an honest look at what you face when you travel to Ghana. I won't be in the main city so that has good reviews of hotels, restaurants, sites to see, etc as well as good travel advice on health, safety, food, etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not only was it useless, but it was HEAVY 9 July 2014
By Tria - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The reason this product review is 2/5 is because I was able to find the same information from Google and it was free. Not only was it useless, but it was HEAVY. Like another 5 lbs heavier. It might not seem a lot right now, but 5 lbs adds up when you carrying around a large hiking backpack. Yeah. Like a rock, literally. So useless, I ended up leaving it in Ghana.
