Bill Pearl's book is an excellent reference tool for anyone interested in strenght training. Thoroughly comprehensive, it includes sketches of just about any weight-training exercise you could ever need, as well as explanations for each. To round it up, it includes a large variety of sample programs, focused on particular sports, bodybuilding or just general fitness. On the minus side, the nutrition advise is somewhat skimpy; the major drawback been little information on modern diet and supplementation.

My bodybuilding efforts were unfocused until I bought this book. Although not up-to-date on the most recent techniques and theories of bodybuilding, gave me all the basics necessary to create a sucessful program. I especially appreciated the beginning body-builders and general conditioning programs, and while it didn't necessarily make creating a conditioning program a no-brainer, it certainly answered most of the questions I needed to start training sucessfully.

Those who are interested in fitness and better health at all levels will get potentially benefitted by reading this book. The book extensively covers basic training skills, psychology, physiology etc that the reader might be concerned about when doing/starting exercises. The book has many illustrative descriptions of many different types of exercise and specific example routines for athletes from aerobic dancers, footballers, baseball players and many more as well. The book even touches upon important issues regarding fitness such as drug use, aging problems and so on. Another virtue of this book is its accessibility. From anyone who is just interested in getting into better shape, elderly people who wish to maintain their good health and to improve it, to advanced competitive bodybuilders, this book can be used as both an introductory book and a professional reference manual. Bill Pearl himself is a world-renown bodybuilder who previously won Mr Universe a few times. Now he's over 70 years old and puts all relevant information and the arsenal of his accumulated knowledge regarding fitness and health into this book for everyone. The book is also reasonably priced and having obtained a copy of the book, you will no longer need to buy any fitness magazines. There is no double this revised edition will definitely become the "Bible" in fitness as Bill Pearl himself will remain legendery in fitness. By the way, the first edition has sold more than half a million copies only in the USA and was translated into three different languages! Can't recommend more.
