Book Description

9 Feb 2005 Getting Started
Would you like to make your own handcrafted bead jewelry but just don't know how or where to begin? Well, now you do! Getting Started Stringing Beads is the first book written for non-beaders-those people with absolutely no beading knowledge-and carefully guides them through every aspect making jewelry by stringing (that is, threading wire or thread through beads). This must-have book features more than 100 color photographs and illustrations that walk you step-by-step through going to a bead shop, selecting beads, what to do when you get them home, and basic stringing materials. It also teaches how to secure wire with crimps, tie knots, and work with findings. As you learn to bead, you'll be making more than 25 fun and appealing projects such as a flashy Findings Charm Bracelet that gives you a heads up on connectors; tasteful earrings in four style: drop, line, hoop, and chandelier; and invaluable classic jewelry designs from the Simple Bracelet to the more challenging Two-Strand Matinee necklace. An abundance of tips and bead resources will keep your creative juices percolating while you create the jewelry you've only dreamed of making - until now!

Product Description

A lot of stringing books only have words for their projects , so we liked the fact that this one had lots of illustrations. We felt it might be a good choice for a complete beginner. It also has some basic wirework techniques so is a good all-rounder. --Bead Dec 07/Jan 08

5.0 out of 5 stars Start beading! 30 April 2007
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
The title says everything - this is a great little book to get you started stringing beads.

If you know nothing at all about the subject, after reading the lengthy detailed introduction you will have a good general knowledge of beads, tools, findings, stringing materials, knotting, etc.

It then covers all the basics, from a simple bead on a string, to multistranded necklaces and bracelets and if you have a creative enough mind then you could go on from this to designing your own jewellery.

As an introduction to the subject, this is perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners 7 Jan 2009
This is a great book for beginners. It is laid out in a very clear way with names, details and images of different beads, findings and beading techniques. Clear instructions are also given for several easy projects. Highly recommended for beginners and improvers as both a project and reference book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to get you started 8 May 2009
This is the first jewellery making book I bought and I have been thrilled with it. It describes all of the different tools, types of beads, types of different stringing materials and techniques very clearly. It then gives instructions of how to make specific pieces.

The pictures and diagrams are of a very high quality and it is well written. It is a hard backed book but not huge, so easy to hold and read. An altogether great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beading for beginners 13 Mar 2010
By kehs TOP 1000 REVIEWER
This book is perfect for beginners. The world of beading can be daunting, with so many techniques to learn and such a diverse range of tools and stones to use. The author simplifies all the basic techniques and her instructions are clear and concise. I've found this book extremely helpful and will be referring to it many times.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing 22 April 2011
As someone new to making jewellery I was looking for a basic manual. This book is so simplistic however that it's less informative than half an hour browsing the internet. It told me nothing I hadn't already worked out for myself, the illustrations were uninspiring and I doubt I'll ever look at it again.

An excellent book for those starting out on jewellery making. I borrowed it first from the library and then decided to buy as it will be a handy reference for some time.

1.0 out of 5 stars no projects, no levels of difficulty
This is useless as a beginner's book. It's just a list of techniques. It doesn't even say which of the techniques are easy and which are difficult. Read more
