Product Description

In the updated third edition of this book, you will find all the learning I have gained since I started with stock photography in 2008. Armed with this knowledge, you can confidently start to make money from your own photos. How much can you earn? A recent survey of 800 stock photographers reported that the average annual income was $16000 with the highest reported being $900,000! The median (the income of the 400th photographer if you ranked everyone by sales) was $3000. My aim is to get you above that point, as quickly as possible!

What are my qualifications for this? I am just like you; a competent amateur who enjoys photography. In just six years, I have built my earnings from nothing to around $25,000 a year by following the steps in this book.

The early chapters cover the stock industry, how it developed and what you will find now. The industry is changing fast and with this third edition I wanted to give you access to the most up to date information available on how best to make money from your photographs. You will find an overview of how to get started including a full step by step workflow to efficiently manage your images and get them online on the major agencies. I then describe the main microstock agencies and the pros and cons of uploading to them, adding any tips that will help maximize your earnings. In this new edition, I have included charts and graphs showing exactly how much I earn from each agency and how that has been changing over time to allow you to judge which ones are worth supporting. I think you will be surprised how that has been changing over the past couple of years and I doubt if you will find this level of detail in any other book on the subject of stock photography. Finally, in the later chapters, I delve deeper into keywording secrets and how to try to get your images displayed ahead of the rest to the buyers.

Why wait - your photos are only gathering dust on your hard drive - make a start now in Stock Photography!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great eBook 26 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
When getting started into stock photography I was looking for a short and useful book that could help me in my first steps into this business. This eBook was certainly the right one. I found it perfect in all its features. It's relatively short, plenty of useful tips and when reading it you can really tell how experienced the author is.
I would recommend it to everyone, beginners and not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Info & good read 13 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I didnt know the book existed until I started chatting to a bloke standing next to me taking photos of a stone circle in the English Lake District. I am glad I struck up the conversation - it turned out to be Steve - I am even more glad we discussed Stock and he (without being pushy in any way) mentioned how he had started out, and written a book on how to start out.

The book reads well, and is full of very useful advice. In addtion to gleaning info on how Steve set about starting up in Stock, he provides useful links from in the book to sites etc. You can find lots of this out yourself ... but Steve has done the hard work for you. It also covers a range of helpful tips a number of stock sites.

Steve seems to be keeping the book up to date - my edition is 2012. I just need to get better at bookmarking things on my kindle (amazon - come on).

If you read this Steve - thanks! Any chance you could write a chapter on how you approach random people in to get them to sign model or (propety owners for) property releases?

Recomended? - definitely yes

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for newbies to the business 26 Mar 2013
By Peter171 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
A brilliant factual account of what is involved in stock photography. It certainly opened my eyes, but it has not put me off getting started, in fact just the opposite, it has excited me at the prospect of getting my images off my hard drives and out on to the WWW for people to see, enjoy and hopefully buy.

It is a business I had not even thought of but having bought the Kindle version the read was excellent value for money and money well spent.

A concise and well written document. If you are considering the Stock photo business, READ this book first. You wont regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good To Know Info 8 Sep 2013
By Allison Brice Klutts - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I wish this book had been a bit longer and given more information, but as it is, the author gave good information about the stock agencies he was acquainted with.

Maybe one day after I break into the business I will write a book myself detailing step by step how to do this. Because after all, this is what we are all after.

Information about the agencies can be had for free if you just go to their site and read what they have for you there. For free.
