By A Customer

An excellent book covering everything a band needs to know if they want to get on in the music business.

Solid, no nonsense information and advice on management, record companies, music solicitors, publishing companies, gigging, agents, promoters, self marketing, demos etc., is accompanied by useful addresses and example contracts.

Interspersed with real life anecdotes, this book outlines the pitfalls, explains the music industry and guides the reader through the intricate maze from demo to deal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Damn Awesome 28 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
Just so many good tips about being a musician such as...

1)If an A&R person calls you and wants to hear some new material, send them some, not some old sub-standard stuff
2)A supporter on the local paper can become one of your greatest allies and should certainly be someone you buy the occasional beer
3)Starting a mailing list of your supporters is one of the most effective ways of building up a local fan base

With these tips and so many more - it shouldn't be long before you're getting your own record deal :D

3.0 out of 5 stars good 3 July 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is good but if you have read book like this before then you won't find anything new it all says the same thing in the end. If you want something controversial and different I recommend `the essential guide for serious singers and musicians.' Why? It is rare for writers to be honest and frank about what really goes on inside the music industry and bold enough to speak out against it. It also points out that you can make it big time without the music industry and most books don't tell you this! I don't think that I can find any book anywhere that really starts from the fundamental leading to progressive knowledge of the inside workings of the music industry regarding its control and unfair monopoly over bands. Okay this book is good for loads of information but if falls short of what I think is required i.e. the fuller picture of the music world. This book you can also get on Amazon
