Product Description

The first three series of the BBC medical sitcom following the fortunes of the staff on an NHS hospital ward. Beset by killer viruses, egomaniacal consultants and endless paperwork, the overworked and underpaid staff of ward B4 struggle on regardless. Snowed under by her workload, neurotic Ward Sister Flixter (Joanna Scanlan) is forced to rely on the talents of seen-it-all-before nurse Kim Wilde (Jo Brand), while trying to avoid the attentions of over-egging Ward Doctor Pippa Moore (Vicki Pepperdine).

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic comedy 4 Dec 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Everything about this show is spot on, in turn laugh out loud, poignant, achingly sad and brutally satirical on the state of the NHS. The first two series were directed by Peter Capaldi and all are written by the three main female leads. Pippa the oblivious consultant obsessed with prodding the darker holes of the human anatomy is matched by Jo Brand's genuine warmth as she deserately tries to show a compassionate face to her elderly charges but all too often is just left to clean up the mess. Very British, very true and simply magnificent

4.0 out of 5 stars Excruciating!!! 10 Jan 2013

Such dry, black humour! I'm sure a nursing friend of mine will love it, but it might be a little bit too close to home! Brilliant characterisation by all four major roles - consultant Pippa is my favourite.

2.0 out of 5 stars Amusing scripts but why wasn't it filmed with more than one camera!
Ok, the scripts were amusing in parts but production costs must have been kept low by using only one camera to film the series. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting on
Excellent, acceptably realistic & very amusing. Written by authors who know the situation and filmed in an intriguingly modern way. Well worth the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny!
Very funny, albeit you need to like black 'hospital' humour. Jo Brand is her usual hilarious dour self. The Consultant character made me cringe and laugh at the same time.

We missed this on the television and are currently most of the way through series 2. This may not be for those of a sensitive disposition but it is wickedly funny. Read more
