As chick-lit this book delivers what it promises, The prose style is okay and its a nice fantasy story with likeable if shallow characters and a glossing over of reality - the plot covers some serious issues, but any unpleasant aspects are either ignored or passed over very quickly.
So far, so easy read, its undemanding, predictable and enjoyable enough. More could have been made of the ending.
However, it didn't surprise me that "Annie Sanders" is two writers, as almost all of the people in this book do things which contradict their characters. Does one writer get them established and then hand them to the other half way through? While you might argue that
people do do things that are out of character there is one alarming male who drastically changes his hair colour - on page 108 "His face, under a mop of fair hair", on page 153 "Thick dark hair was pushed off his face" - he's a major character - surely you visualise your characters when writing about them?
Overall I felt that this book was put together to a formula in order to extract money without even a cursory quality check. I'd rather have read something less accomplished by a writer who cares about writing.
