Product Description

Product Description

Sufferers of OCD can spend hours performing ritualized actions to try to fend off imagined disaster or their fear of germs, injury or even numbers. In "Getting Control", Dr Baer offers OCD sufferers a straightforward plan for controlling their symptoms through behaviour therapy. Self-tests and case studies help readers gauge the type and severity of their problem. Then, by learning to control their symptoms, they gradually reduce the anxieties that produce the obsessions and compulsions themselves. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I have bought many OCD books, and found this one the most helpful. As well as being thoroughly informative it also has a large section in order for you to work through your particular obsessions and compulsions with the aid of examples from other ocd'ers. The book is like having your own 24hr personal therapist!

What I found great was that chapter ten is there for others to read, such as family members and loved ones so that they understand what people with OCD go through. It provides them with a plan if they decide to be helpers and the skills to deal with OCD'ers irrational thoughts. My family are far more supportive and helpful now, after reading chapter ten.

If you have OCD, this book will most definately help.

As an OCD sufferer I can tell that this book is one of the best on the market. It also has references to other useful books such as 'White bears and other unwanted thoughts.' I would however recommend help from a professional aswell. Keep to their homework assignments but read as much as you can on OCD: this will help you see the traps it sets for you. Good luck!

It was such a relief to find this book. As an OCD sufferer I found the author, Lee Baer, to combine great knowledge with compassion and understanding in his book. The book is very well laid out with comprehensive yet simple questionaires and goals to keep you on your path. You are encouraged to be disciplined but not too hard on yourself either. He has worked with OCD sufferers for 20 years and it shows.

I urge anyone with OCD to buy this book, even if their symptoms are severe and they are currently working with a therapist.
