Book Description

One time jewel thief Lenny Hamilton is still a well-known character in the East End. Respected for actually castigating the Kray brothers on television while they were still alive, he wrote his autobiography, Branded by Ronnie Kray, which detailed Lenny’s own life and the night when Ronnie Kray branded him with red-hot pokers.

Lenny was an outspoken critic of the Krays even before their deaths and he has attempted to put the record straight concerning their celebrity status, work for charity and the number o murders they committed aside from the well-known victims Jack ‘the Hat’ McVitie and George Cornell. Lenny knew both of these men and believes that they didn’t deserve to be murdered.

This is Lenny’s second book, written with Craig Cabell, which blows away the myths surrounding the Kray murders and details other victims of the evil ‘Brothers Grim’.

Discussing the Twins’ life of crime with friends and acquaintances, backed by cross-referenced quotes and other documentation – some from the National Archive – Lenny has created a highly credible story that debunks the Krays’ celebrity status and shows them as even more reckless and murderous criminals than formerly believed. Getting Away with Murder is the shocking story of Britain’s most famous gangsters.

Read a few Kray books now and this is one of the better ones,
Lenny doesnt hang back in his quest to educate the reader on
his and others stories of the Krays and why so many had such distaste
for the twins and puts to bed the myth that they were heroes to the east
end public because of their casual use of fear through violence.

4.0 out of 5 stars an insight to old London 30 Oct. 2006
well having read many books on the Krays I am happy to say that this book sets the story straight on a pair of evil villains and their Associets. One has to feel sorry for the people that suffered at the hands of the Krays and admiration for people like Lenny Hamilton for surviving. Both Lenny and Craig put the records straight, with fact and in a true cockney style. i suggest anyone out there who knows little about the Krays, read this first and likewise for those who know a lot because this will quell any rumours, disbelief and glory. a great book front to back. I thoroughly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars honest review 17 Aug. 2006
By Stephen
After reading the book i must admit i was impressed as it's a little different from the usual romantic notions of the notorious Kray Twins. One thing i would have like to have seen (maybe a future book?) is more of a detailed history of the victims. Consider that most books depict Cornell and Mcvitie as evil scum bags who deserve what they got etc but on who's say so are we meant to take this? Coupled the usual mugshots of both men etc. Little is really known about the true characters of both men as lies have no doubt been told to in previous literature to cast the krays in a good light and attempt to provide a justification for the murders. Who were these victims really, what do we really know abouth them in a biographical sense, i feel they deserve more than a few pages or chapter to have their story told. Anyone asked themselves the same questions? Yes i liked the book and recommend it to the reader, i hope the author(s) pick up on my suggestion and take it a stage further to print
