Not quite as the other reviewer say "Best ever". But if you like Hard/Horrorcore you WILL love this gem. Quite possibly better than 'We can't be stopped'. Its a pity the original version of Gangster of love had be removed due to copy write issues.

One of the greatest, vilest records ever made 14 Mar 2006
By lexo1941 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The guitarist from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs put it like this: 'In times of indecision, I often think to myself "What would Bushwick Bill do?" Usually I do the opposite because the midget rapper from this crew has been shot in the face and I haven't. Yet.'

That about sums it up. In Dublin in the 1980s, if you were a middle-class suburban teenager (and I'm afraid that in those days it pretty much went without saying that you were a white M.-C. S.T.), you either liked U2 or you didn't. If like me you didn't, then outside of your brother's vintage heavy metal collection there were few signs of life; a lot of rubbish pop music, some big-hair poodle-rock bands, and not a lot else. But then a cousin lent me this album, and at last I saw the light.

The Geto Boys were and for all I know still are not necessarily anyone you'd want to hang out for an evening with, if only because of the risk of gunfire or your girlfriend putting your eye out, but good god could they make a noise. I used to put this on my walkman and play it to people at my school to make them go away. 'Triggy Happy Nigga' is the one I played to death, but 'Gangsta of Love' is without doubt the funniest. One day, long in the future, my kids will play me something that they think is going to offend me, and I'll play them this back. And we'll be quits.

Extremely sick and hilarious! A demented masterpiece! 9 Sep 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Before they became decent, but conventional "gangsta" rappers, the Geto Boys released this demented masterpiece which celebrates serial killers, jailhouse rape, misogyny and other warm family traditions. The Geto Boys try their darndest on their self-titled major-label debut to record the most offensive CD of all time and they pretty much succeed. With the exception of G.G. Allin and the Mentors, I have never heard a more extreme and gleefully sick album. In fact, it's so over-the-top, it's sometimes hard to determine if this is a parody or a portrait of psychotic mind-rot at its finest. Regardless, it will be sure to make you laugh and cringe at the same time. Highly recommended for those who don't want "positivity" or "uplift" sullying their music.
A WORD OF WARNING TO THOSE WHO OWNED THE ORIGINAL DEF AMERICAN VERSION OF THE ALBUM: "Gangsta of Love" now contains a sample of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" as the backing track of the song, instead of Steve Miller's "The Joker".

A Gangsta Rap Classic! 2 Aug 2000
By Louis Tanguay - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Forget about Eminem getting "wild" on his CD's. Youwant to hear REAL violence, listen to the lyrics for "Mind of a Lunatic." When I first heard that song I was shocked. This is one of my favorite albums, though. I understand that all the lyrical content is just fictitious. We all still loved the movies Seven, Natural Born Killers, and Pulp Fiction, didn't we? The one downer about this version is that the song "Gangsta of Love" is different than the cassette version I originally purchased in 1990. The original contained Steve Miller's "Gangster of Love" sample from his song "The Joker." This CD release contains "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynard Skynard, but it's all good. I love this album, the lyrics are immensely descriptive and artistic. They just do not make 'em like this anymore. Eminem eat your heart out...

Deadly as an A bomb 13 Dec 2006
By A. J. M. Mcdonald - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I had almost forgotten that I had this record, but one recent day, feeling particularly incensed, I remembered it and dug it out. Singing along to f#@* `em, I found myself already feeling much better. The last time I played that track so loud was many years ago when I threw in the towel and walked out of a job, and this time round it had the same highly therapeutic effect. By the time Assassins came on, I had abandoned the idea of becoming one, as my rage had abated, having been absorbed by this first class record, which is as incredible today as when it was first released in 1995. It has some of the catchiest gangsta rap tunes you will ever hear.

As other reviewers have noted, this record is the polar opposite of sweet and the lyrics are seething with anger, nastiness and good 'ol fashioned sexism, although they should not be taken entirely seriously. Still, if you are feeling homicidal, they hit the spot. It is the perfect antidote to a bad day.

Play it loud and feel your troubles and deadly thoughts melt away. Far cheaper than therapy, and beats a murder rap.

A seminal classic which belongs in every record collection 20 July 2008
By XXll - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Ever since the DJ at our wedding reception played "Gangsta of Love" in lieu of our guest's request to hear The Steve Miller Band's "Gangster of Love" my wife and I have been in love with the Geto Boys. I still have vivid memories of her octagenarian Irish grandmother break dancing in the middle of the dance floor and my Italian grandfather proudly (and loudly)singing the choruses in unison with the Maid of Honor. The articulate sincerity of the group's lyrics is at once both metaphorically hauting and inspiring. Although Bushwick does his best to supress any mention of his 4 years of vocal training at Juliard, the operatic overtones are unmistakable. I would recomend this album to anyone with an appreciation of fine vocal art. If you like Puccini, Hayden, Wagner and Mahler, I guarantee that you will love the Geto Boys.
