Get On With Your Short Life is sure to appeal to Brian Kennedy's massive fanbase, as well as win him millions more. Having contributed to several Van Morrison albums and many of his live shows, and having enjoyed three multi-platinum hits in his homeland, Belfast-born Kennedy is already a big star in Ireland. He's also made inroads into other territories, touring with Tina Turner and the Corrs, and performing in Riverdance on Broadway. And this album--much of it co-written with the stalwart likes of Paul Brady, Boo Hewerdine and Curtis Stigers--is sure to bring more success. Though he occasionally descends into boy-band-ballad cliché ("Everytime" and "You Take My Breath Away"), Kennedy has put together a collection of relentless good taste. "Call Me Old Fashioned" is sparse and touching: ("Looking In) the Wrong Place", with its snatches of banjo and cleverly timed electronic whine, is beautifully put together by part-time collaborator Calum MacColl; "If You Love Me" shares the cool atmospherics of Sade: "So What If It Rains" approaches the melodic melodrama of Richard Marx, while the title track, softly railing at contemporary obsessions with youth and slimness, recalls 10CC's classic "I'm Not In Love". Yet Kennedy's main strength lies in his voice. He never growls or flips like Van, or soars like Tim Buckley, but his vocal is always clear and unfailingly pretty. --Dominic Wills

Happiness is....listening to a Brian Kennedy cd.
On Brian's voice much has been said, and I can't think of a new accolade or superlative that does it justice. Suffice to say: his songs are grown-up without being cynical, evocative without being mawkish. If someone stole my entire cd collection but left me Brian's, I wouldn't be too distressed.

What can I say, Brian you did it again. What a great album, you take my breath away. I just love this from the heart stuff. A great version of Neil Youngs "Only love can break your heart". Brian has a great formula for adding slow sultry romance with the upbeat tempo of todays music without spoiling the mood. This is a great album for all Brian Kennedy fans, just stick it in the car and leave it there, you will not get fed up of listening to it! Score 8/10. When you have got this album, well order " Won't you take me home" the RCA years compilation of previous releases. Go on do it, you can't lose.

This album was originally released in Ireland in October of last year and was another huge hit for this talented singer-songwrriter. While the production at times could be better (namely on "The reason we are here" which sounds great live)Brian Kennedy's voice is as uplifting and "crystal clear" as ever. In "Christopher Street" he has given us what I believe to be his best recording to date. It is an open and honest account of his time in New York while performing in Riverdance (we all make mistakes!) on Broadway and you can almost see the Greenwich village area as he sings - absolutely brilliant.
If you are already a fan you must own this album, a great return to form after the dissapointing "now that I know...."
Come on Brian, what about an acoustic album again, you know it makes sense!
