Book Description

30 Dec 2011 1853158720 978-1853158728
The only book dedicated to the College of Emergency Medicine's Membership examination, this book contains numerous questions and answers, together with data sets and clinical examples to help prepare candidates taking part B of this and other higher examinations in emergency medicine.

All trainees wishing to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine have to have to pass the College of Emergency Medicine's own membership examination (MCEM) to enter training and pass the Fellowship examination (FCEM) to complete their Certificate of Specialist Training (CST).

This book is a study guide which can be used in conjunction with standard emergency medicine texts. It follows the MCEM syllabus exactly and each chapter has three key parts: core facts which supplements revision for parts A and B, clinical scenarios, including data, which can be used to prepare for part B, and sample answers for questions. This book prepares candidates for examination success in part B, the data interpretation part of the MCEM examination. The authors are doctors all dedicated to the acute or emergency setting and who have collated extensive material to help in candidates' preparation for the MCEM examination. They have run a successful revision course for candidates taking the examination.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good source of MCEM B Fodder 20 Feb 2013
By scrimmo
Format:Paperback
Like the rest of the get through series this is very exam focused and has been great for highlighting gaps in my knowledge.

I'm a crammer and pouring through past paper questions is the most effective way for me to learn. The questions are well pitched and usually have some amount of explanation in the answers to help your understanding.

A few issues with this book:

1. the X-ray films are too small for you to make many of the findings that they expect and lack enough contrast.

2. There are a few mistakes with missing sub questions - that then magically there are answers for later. There are also a few mistakes - I don't recommend putting in a chest drain in the midclavicular line as they advocate! These are a little bit annoying.

Overall this is well worth a look and if I pass I will say if was definitely worth the investment!
