From Amazon.co.uk

John Travolta is the standout in this somewhat cartoonish adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel about a smalltime Miami enforcer (Travolta) who decides to get into the movie business in LA. The cast sparkles--Gene Hackman as a failing cut-rate-movie producer, Rene Russo as a failed actress, Danny DeVito as a vain thespian, Delroy Lindo as a mobster who wants a cut of Travolta's film action--and the script is clever. But not clever enough: this isn't Robert Altman's The Player, as far as satires about Hollywood go. But director Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) keeps Get Shorty cute and brisk and that makes for an enjoyable experience. Travolta is great as a vaguely dangerous, supremely self-confident man whose love of movies makes him almost cuddly. --Tom Keogh

Better than the DVD but not by a lot. This is a bare bones transfer no extras other than a commentary. My disc also has a problem playing chapters 19/20 where it freezes and stop starts. Same on two different players both of which have latest firmware updates. I hope this is not generally the case but best be alert.

Although purchased from a competitor, two copies of this disc had exactly the same fault as the other reviewer described. At around 1:05, Ch18 to Ch19 it freezes up and stutters and does not recover.

Avoid until/if the publisher reissues.

Just read the other two reviews. I can add I have rented this blu-ray three timees from Blockbuster online rental. It is definitely not the same disk as on complaining for a faulty disk they have sent out another one while I still have the other. And all three the movie crashes about the 1hr 5min mark. And it keeps crashing after that so I have been unable to watch the movie after this. I was coming here to buy it for £7 as I really was enjoying the film up until then. But seeing those other two reviews saying theirs crashes too. It seems to be a manufacturer pressing problem. By the way I have tried it on three Blu-Ray players too. Including A standalone premium Oppo player and an LG PC Blu-Ray drive.

When I head John Travolta was heading the cast of a film based on an Elmore Leonard novel, I thought 'Tarantino!'. But Get Shorty isn't a Tarantino film, literally or stylistically. Travolta's character, Chili Palmer, is a crook with a heart of gold - he realises quite early on in this film that what he wants to do is 'make movies', and the ensuing cocktail of filmmaking and crime is very entertaining, flirting vaguely with the same ground as 'The Player'. JT is easily as good in this film as he is in Pulp Fiction. And one of the greatest things about this film is that, for once, Gene Hackman isn't being forced to play a ruthless baddie (as he is in 99% of his films) - his character here, Harry Zimm, is a likeable loser.

Travolta: "His best part was when he played the crippled gay guy who climbed Mount Whitney..." Hackman: "Ride The Clouds. Good picture..."

You forget just how funny "Get Shorty" is - never mind how cool the cast and music were too.

Super-slick Chilli Palmer (John Travolta) works as an enforcer/money collector for podgy gang boss Momo in New York. But Momo comes home one night to a surprise 65th birthday party - and so surprised is Momo - that he gets a heart attack and dies. Chilli learns all of this in Miami where he's gotten on the nerves of yet another hood in a suit - Ray 'Bones' Barboni (a fabulously funny turn by Dennis Farina). Chilli breaks Ray's nose for stealing his jacket from a restaurant and soon the two on course for a not-so-sunny showdown in Tinseltown...

Meanwhile degenerate gambler Leo Devoe (the great David Paymer) has faked his own death and run off to Vegas with the $300,000 insurance pay-off (his wife is none too pleased - neither is Ray Bones who is owed money by the useless Leo). Chilli now goes to Vegas to find Devoe - but whilst there he's asked by a casino boss to look in on Harry Zimm - a small-time Producer in Hollywood who's into the Hotel for $150,000 and is avoiding paying.

Harry Zimm (another genius role by Gene Hackman) makes Slime Creature schlock horror movies and is shacked up with a talented and beautiful actress Karen Flores (Rene Russo) in a Hollywood home when Chilli comes calling in the middle of the night. But Chilli is bored with hustling and is more interested in making movies that beating up this man or his girl for money. Soon they're talking - driving around Hollywood - even getting along. And it turns out that Harry Zimm has a quality script in his possession called "Mr.

The plot of this film sounds a bit like tarantino, but its not. Shylock Chilli Palmer (Travolta) goes to hollywood, ostensibly to collect a debt but, like everyone else in the film, wants to make movies. The cast is brilliant including the much underated Delroy Lindo, a not-used enough Dennis Farina and a beardy James Gandolfini. Travolta and Lindo both play gangster-types who want to break into production, this leads to some scenes of unbridled comedy. Travolta's character is not a million miles away from Pulp Fiction's Vincent Vega, less prone to violence and a hundred times as clever, but still retaining that greased hard-man image. It is a light-hearted film, brilliant characters, a good plot, an ending that will either have you laughing uncontrollably or holding your hands out saying "Thats not an ending". All in all, Genious.

Get Shorty is a very fun movie. Travolta and all the other characters make it special. The story is great and very well done. I wont spoil it for anyone that has not seen it yet but all I can say just get it as its a laugh and you will enjoy it. Now the quality on blu ray is good. The quality of facial features and other things is more than decent. Compared to dvd its way better.its not one of the greatest looking but 3.5/5 in my opinion. The sound on blu ray is really good too.For the price you cant go wrong. Just get it. Fast Delivery. Great seller. A happy customer here. Thank You
