When I first met Brad I thought he was a builder but after reading his book he is more like a northern Anthony Robbins! Theo Paphitis - Dragons' Den star --http://www.getoffyourarse.biz
About the Author
As a small business owner himself, who has suffered all of the worries, challenges and indignities of launching a business (in massive personal debt and having to deliver pizzas in the early days), Brad knows what it's like and tells it how it is. Not as thick as he looks, Brad was told: It'll never work. He has answered his critics in the best possible way - by proving them wrong and spearheading the fastest growing business breakfast network in the world, 4Networking, with over 200 groups across the UK and now groups opening around the world. Brad is the author of two books so far, both of which are self help/biz books for people who don't like self help/biz books: Get Off Your Arse - this is Brad's must-read inspirational story of he went from his boxroom to the boardroom as MD of 4Networking. With over 190 rave reviews on Amazon, averaging 4.9 out of 5, this was the publishing sensation of 2009. Get Off Your Arse Too - Brad Burton is back, sharing his unique and raw look at life/business and how everything happens for a reason, even the s**tty stuff... GOYA2, published in 2011, is set to repeat and exceed the success of the first book.
Ok, if you are currently in employment or jobless, deeply unhappy and haven't got a clue how to start your own business or ever really thought about it, then this book will give you some motivation. If you already have your own business and simply looking for some tips and help, then this book is 100% not for you, unless of course you want to sit through a couple of hundred pages of the author simply spouting on about his Networking business. Now i'm not saying his networking business isn't good or that it will / won't help your business, but the constant referrals to it and everyone connected to it are nauseating.
So if you are a bit clueless and need a bit of kick up the backside and/or motivating, give it a go, but if you are simply looking for new marketing or business tips and strategies then look elswhere.
I bought (and returned) the kindle version. I found it very scattered, there is no clear logic to it. No new concepts and a massive advert for his networking business that looks like a slightly modified version of the BNI. I did not enjoy the book and gave up after 50% of it as I was too bored.
Before judging the low mark I am giving for this book I would ask you to read my review of the first book. I have the book buyer in mind, not the author and while I am sure that Brad is a great guy, very motivational and very likeable I am reviewing the content. Brad's legendary success with his first book clearly gave him the confidence to be cruder, more macho and aggressive and less sensitive to those he might hurt in the pursuit of this book. I know I am going to be slated by Brad fans, even though I will actually be amongst those buying his third book. However, this book simply isn't as good as his first and actually the rags to riches theme forgets the reader whilst Brad luxuriates in his achievements. It is not a waste of money, the book is entertaining but informative in a critical way and whilst it is right to highlight people who are "dicking about" instead of doing business there are better and more focussed books about. Real content can be found in lots of other business books so please don't think that this charismatic and influential maverick has all the answers in this book. However, the first book is a must buy.
