If you ever want to know why us oldies harp on about how music was better in the old days, then listen to this fantastic compilation.. This collection had me when it started with Syl Johnson's "We Did It". Believe it or not folks, this is what dance music used to sound like.. This album is the ideal combination - incredibly funky rhythm tracks combined with sweet strings and soulful vocals.. combine that with well written songs with killer choruses .. really what else could you possibly need? The album pulls together tracks from 3 Southern labels, mainly from the seventies, and doesn't have a bad track on it..and all for an incredibly cheap price. For a soul fan it has some tracks you will own already, but a lot that you won't... For any artist or musician starting out in music they should take this album as a GCSE... Bless you Bobbys Mcclure, Patterson and all the other artists for brightening my day..
If, like me, you are a soul/funk/disco music "collector" of sorts, you will find this CD a refreshing addition to your collection... there are a number of hard to find tracks on here and all in all it is a very pleasant listen, with some of the tracks being the kind you tend to go back to over and over...
Excellent value for money, and well worth a listen or ten!
This is a fine compilation, I came across by accident; competitively priced, it showcases, excellently, the nature of Southern Soul: those wonderful, beautifully-orchestrated, seductive, Southern Soul tones. A wonderful purchase for any fan of this genre.
