hypnotic, psychedelic prog/glam rock 'n' roll 1 May 2014
By Charlie Quaker - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
4th release from band out of Vancouver, Canada led by Stephen McBean of Black Mountain,
Blood Meridian. PM play hypnotic, psychedelic prog/glam rock with its nose buried deep in the
driving originality of experimental, but accessible, songcraft surprise. McBean sings with an
addictive & believable rock star urgency a la Morrissey/Nikki Sudden/Mick Karn/Mick Ralphs,
while a wall of instruments soars with a melody-blistered power in a sparkly, rootsy sheen.
Guests include members from Dinosaur Jr., Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dead Meadow, Darker
My Love, Delta 72, Clawhammer, Giant Drag. “Get Back” recalls a whole lot of diverse & killer
bands, such as: Secret Machines, Sleepy Sun, Blank Realm, Psychedelic Furs, Mott the
Hoople, Jazzateers, Can, The Besnard Lakes, Crocodiles, The Stratford 4, Rolling Stones,
Dandy Warhols, etc. There is a difficult-to-describe magical quality to these songs that connects
to the heart & spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, a sense that it’s being lived right in front of your ears, in all of
its explosively loveable & listenable, celebratory, mind-expanding glory. Pink Mountaintops are
one of best bands in the game right now. With the exception of one song (“North Hollywood
Microwave”, which has an ill-advised rap element) this album is consistently brilliant and
