Another of Maverick's beautiful books. Just lovely to feel such good quality paper in a children's book.
Fred is a stylish man about town who has a hat for every occasion.
The backgrounds alone in this book are outstanding giving the reader and child so much to discuss and look at. Daisy Dawes is obviously a very taented model maker judging by the characters and backgrounds in this book.The expressions on the faces of the cats and the characters makes you want to ask your audience 'How are they feeling?'
Even the newspaper and articles featured in the book need reading.
My class of 6 year olds loved this book and said they would recommend it to everybody.

This book is brilliant. The text is witty and entertaining with great rhymes to keep young ones enthralled and the pictures are amazing, clearly the author is an expert model maker and this really shows. The story is unusual and has a great ending, (it's not twee or predictable as many kids books are) and the detailed scenes support the story really well. I bought this for my friend's toddler and she loves it and is just as interested in the backgrounds as she is in Fred himself. I have bought this since then for a number of other children ranging in age up to six and they have all loved it, I have to confess I have also bought a copy for myself too! Can't wait to see if Daisy releases another book, the quality of this one means I would for sure buy it if she does.

This came highly recommended by a friend. We bought copies for our five-year-old and her friend and they love it. Great, whimsical story-telling and fun illustrations with all sorts of hidden delights - just have a look at the deli counter! Ideal for readers and listeners.
