. . . then it'll be hard not to like this disc. This CD contains some of George Gershwin's famous and most popular works. They are mostly jazz with infusions of classical elements. Rhapsody in Blue is featured in its original 1924 form, which is originally intended for a jazz ensemble and not for a full orchestra. You'll notice that the strings are constantly (if not completely) absent. The famous "Summertime" song from the opera Porgy & Bess is sung by the magnificent Harolyn Blackwell. An American in Paris is also another goodie from Gershwin, with some colorful orchestrations and a wonderful Parisian atmosphere. The Cuban Overture has, of course, that Cuban spark; the first few seconds should grab everyone's attention. "I've Got Rhythm" Variations, Rialto Ripples, and Lullaby are also incredibly intriguing. Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra do a splendid job with these classic classical/jazz pieces, and the Telarc sound quality is a must-hear.
