Product Description

Product Description

Between these covers the elements wield mankind as their pawns. A tramp is denied yoghurt; others copy their genes by underhand means. A sultan builds a tower of bones to scorn the death of his beloved; Henry Rollins hangs himself. The futility of politics and religion is proven, thousands are exterminated on an arbitrary basis, a priceless work of Buddhist art is destroyed and Richard Dawkins performs unspeakable acts in this deft, cynical but ultimately compassionate hybrid of poetry, fiction and diagrams.
Richard Tyrone Jones is a London-based poet, comic and writer. Germline is his first contribution to humanity s extended literary phenotype.
Often witty, sometimes unsettling and always smart, Jones' debut literary cauldron bubbles with a nervy assurance and a frenetic energy. A raw and salty collection from a thoughtful and ginger poet - Tim Key
Fusing the intense imagery of William Burroughs with the poetic anarchy of Spike Milligan, Jones debut displays a merciless wit and an infectious sense of fun that matches his already formidable reputation as a spoken word performer... within it runs a deep philosophical vein that explores the Darwinian undertones of our postmillennial niceties and the many contradictory emotions that haunt our daily human contact - Niall O' Sullivan
Bridges the page-stage divide... and dumps on both - Tim Wells

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful and original selection of prose and poetry, 10 July 2009
By
Alain English (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Germline (Paperback)
Richard Tyrone Jones is a legend on the London spoken word scene. As performer, as well as host of "Utter!" events in and around London, he stands in a league of his own.

The poetry and prose in this collection reflects his spontaneous, absurd and hilarious stage persona. Richard lampoons and wryly pokes fun at the many trivial and banal aspects of modern life that affect us all, from shopping receipts and bizarre encounters with crazed old man, there is something in here for everyone.

Be warned, though. This is definitely not kid's poetry, and the level of filth and obscenity may offend the purists who like it clean. This ironically where Richard is at his best, with an excellent limerick about coprophiles and a horrendously funny dig at Richard Dawkins among his best poems.

I have no idea of the appeal this collection will have beyond the network of poetry writers and speakers in which he operates but is definitely recommended to a wider audience.

4.0 out of 5 stars So thin I read it twice, 29 Jun 2010
By
D. R. Davies "babbleman" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Germline (Paperback)
Sir

I wish to notify you that since you failed to respond in any form or even fashion to my recent complaint, I have referred the matter to the Office for the Supervision of Poetry (OfPot).

You will recall I drew to your attention the complete lack of reference to my favourite pain relieving compote, Germolene, in your volume I recently purchased from Amazing. I find now, on dropping the pamphlet in disgust, it fell open on some tawdry ballad not entirely respectful to the late General De Gaulle (please excuse my accent). Frankly the most redeeming factor I can put my finger on is the sheer thinness and on browsing further I can say I was encouraged that the end always remained firmly in sight.

Yours etc etc

PS I have rated my purchase 4 starts for the speed with which Amazing delivered my order but they have refused bluntly a refund on the grounds it would insult the French.
