THE source about the mighty german Panther,
By A Customer
This review is from: Germany's Panther Tank: The Quest for Combat Supremacy, Development Modifications, Rare Variants, Characteristics, Combat Accounts (Schiffer Military/Aviation History) (Hardcover)
I was truly in awe when I first flipped through the pages of this book. Mr. Jentz's book on the german WWII Panter tank must contain answers to every question I ever had about the tank. Included are technical details and history of every version deployed on the fronts, as well as concepts that were in design at war's end. Brief combat experiences told by allied soldiers that had confronted Panther's on the western front bring also a nice feel what it was to stare at the barrel of this metal monster. The book contains a huge amount of photos from both inside and outside the tank. One can take a virtual tour of the Tank's turret, engine compartment and hull by skimming through the pages. Closeup images of rarer equipment, like infra-red searchlight systems highlight the book. The only downside I can imagine is that the book takes a very technical approach. If you are looking for a history combat experience, you might be disappointed.

Germany's Panther Tank,
By Surplus661 "ianfoulkes" (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Germany's Panther Tank: The Quest for Combat Supremacy, Development Modifications, Rare Variants, Characteristics, Combat Accounts (Schiffer Military/Aviation History) (Hardcover)
Again, in one volume Mr Jentz has managed to expand our knowledge of WW2 German Tank design, by drawing only from German Archival sources. Designed as a response to the Russian T-34 the Panther featured a hard hitting gun, thick armour laid back at angles to increase its effectivenes. As such, the Panther became the best medium tank of WW2. Even so the tank had its share of problems, all of which are revealed along with the developments to improve it. Some of the images are well known, but most are refreshingly new. Mr Jentz even covers the controversy over the 88mm Schmallturm and its development. Thoroughly recommended.

The Necessary Panther Companion,
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Germany's Panther Tank: The Quest for Combat Supremacy, Development Modifications, Rare Variants, Characteristics, Combat Accounts (Schiffer Military/Aviation History) (Hardcover)
In this work, Thomas Jentz traces the development of Germanys Panther tank using original WWII documents such as drawings and parts numbers. Every mark (Ausf.) and every detail change to the Panther is described. The development and production history takes up about 3/4 of the book, the rest is a short description of the operational characteristics of the Panther, a short combat history and a number of tables and diagrams with tehcnical details. This is THE Panther book. Back it up with Spielbergers more technical work and you have about all there is to know about the Panther.

Excellent technical "ouvrage",

This review is from: Germany's Panther Tank: The Quest for Combat Supremacy, Development Modifications, Rare Variants, Characteristics, Combat Accounts (Schiffer Military/Aviation History) (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book by a man who studied every little piece of information available on this vehicle for over 20 years. He climbed inside the thing many times and has been around it more than once. It is writen in a very technical language, so all of you non-mechanics and newbies out there, watch out! If there is one thing sorely lacking, it is a page of terminolgy. It would have helped a lot. Also, a more combat accounts would've been great. But overall, it is THE Panther book.

This review is from: Germany's Panther Tank: The Quest for Combat Supremacy, Development Modifications, Rare Variants, Characteristics, Combat Accounts (Schiffer Military/Aviation History) (Hardcover)
The ultimate guide to the Panther Tank, is full of detail acounting the progress from drawing board to final version of this extremly well designed battle tank of world war two. Excellent for detail for the modeller keen on fine detailing the Panther Tank in any of its versions. Great read and some fine drawinings of all the Panther Tank models built during the war.
Well worth the money. |
