The Michilin Maps are excelant showing the scenic roads highligted in green. The scale is sufficient for driving, naming even small villages.
I have been using these maps for many years, the only criticism is that the paper is rather thin and easily tears paticularly when folding down to a convenient size for use in a car.

Michelin Germany road map 546 is disappointing as one of the areas we required was Stuttgart, and there is an enormous City Map of Munich all over Stuttgart and surrounding area. We will have to use another map in order to travel in this area! Very annoying as you can get City maps from elsewhere !Please pass comment to Michelin.

Does What A Travel Map Should Do

Bavaria is one of the most-visited regions of Germany. While major places are connected by train and by bus, much of it is most conveniently available to the automotive tourist. Enter a Michelin map: this one includes the whole region in a usable size, with place names large enough to be legible. I have already folded and unfolded the map many times for tour planning and the paper and construction seem to be sturdy enough to go the distance for at least one trip. I've worn out lesser maps just with reference during the planning stages. Rather than providing merely an overview of major and through roads, this map shows improved local roads down to ones that might be well-marked when you actually drive them. I have been able to use this information to, for example, realize that there is not a direct way to loop together the major castles used by King Ludwig II since the road to the Linderhof (via Oberammergau and Ettal)dips down into Austria rather than continuing directly east to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Adventurous tourists who want to visit lesser-known (to American travelers) spa towns or abbeys can see where these attractions might fit within a larger itinerary in terms of sequencing and driving distances/times. This map is the companion you will want to have in your glovebox for a visit in Bavaria.

This map is very concise and easy to use and read. The contrasting colors helps find locations fast. It's a must for touring Germany.

I am a fan of Michelin maps, but this one is just too large, requiring a huge space to unfold and read. This causes problems with the paper tearing, as there is no protective coating . It just won't work well while on the road. I'm going to try a different one.
